I say that is false
working at the shipping company and never heard of that..
US Customs inspect and catagorize Engines as Incomplete Machine part
according to HS CODE (Harmonized system code)
It is Commodity Classification.
all of incomplete machine part is even non taxable..
if there is some kind of law is making CA dont get the engines then no other states will get them.
because all of shipment from Japan , China , Hongkong comes in Long beach Harbor or LAX by AIR first.
there are no laws discountinue importing machine parts
and I doubt there will be....

2 of my local engine warehouses' have officially stopped importing SR and other jdm engines as of August 09. But this was a move due to the market being whored out and smaller profit margins.

At least this isn't one of those threads about '' what's it like to have an SR in Cali'' or '' how are the cops with SR'ed cars in Cali''
Just STFU already. If you're scared of being pulled over don't do the swap.

Just because it's not a thread about '' what's it like to have an SR in Cali'' or '' how are the cops with SR'ed cars in Cali'', doesn't mean it's a stupid thread. You can't justify a dumb thread by it not being about an over discussed topic.
This thread obviously isn't about being scared about being pulled over either, or else the OP wouldn't be concerned about not being able to get an SR.
Like let5l1de said, It's more than likely shops not being able to offer this service because of money issues.

This is actually the statement that holds more truth. Between the crackdown on swapped engine cars and the fears that it has created.
Add the economy and It has damn near killed the Import Engine market. People are just not buying, especially Performance engines.
Like others have said there is no law against bringing the engines in. The laws of Economics though? They play a bigger role in this.
Which means you still will be able to get engines, just not as easily as before as there will be a lot fewer suppliers. Oh and expect the price to rise on the cost of engines as well. As there are less available and harder to find you will see rises in the cost of purchasing.
