First off, i have a blown "s14 garrett" turbo a while ago. After receiving turbo however, found out it was a fake turbo with garrett housing. Turbo is now blown.

Been looking for either a gt28rs or a gt2871r for a good price. Found some used ones, but thinking about maybe new one. I read a fs recently on here about someone wanting to get a gt30 or 35 (dont remember) and swap out the housing for a twin scroll housing. It got me wondering if i can do something like this with my blown turbo i already have. My car has been sitting in socal for a good two months now with me trying to upgrade my turbo and such. Looked on ebay and frsport for turbos. While searching on ebay, i found a gt28rs chra for sale.

Questions:

The compressor housing IS the same on the s14/s15/28rs/2871r (besides the one with the flanges and the one with the straight 3 inch open) right?
I know there is the option of a .64 or .83 turbine housing for the 28rs and the 2871rs but the s14 and s15 t28 comes with the .64 housing right??

If so, then is it possible to buy a new garrett gt28rs chra (from ebay $745 + $35 shipping) and just put the housing from the blown turbo i got?

Last question, if it DOES WORK, would it be worth it in the end compared to just buying a s15 turbo because on frsport, the gt2871r with the .64 housing is rated at 350 hp while the t28 is rated from 280-320? Also comparing, the chra alone is like %800 and the s15 is $705 from frsport.

Sorry if this has been covered already. Tried looking it up but couldn't find anything.

Thanks.

G T28 is a t28 if you have a GT28RS CHRA you basically are just pyaing for the BB. The housings on a blow GT28 will fit any other T28 CHRA if they are close in trim specs of the original T28

Just FYI I am back in the turbo business and have guaranteed pricing in place with a friend of mine who does custom Garrett and Turbonetics Turbo Rebuilds and customer turbos.

If you are looking for a Non-BB T3/T28 Custom Turbo that will spool up as fast at a GT28RS I can get you a brand new one for 675 bucks with Core Exchange (Even if the Core is BLOWN)

Hit me up if you are interested or if you have any more questions on this service

hey steve, if you say the gt28rs is the same as a t28 then what would be the difference between the s15 bbturbo and the gt28rs then???

Interested in the custom t28 (t2 flange). All garrett and turbonetics parts right? What about maximum power output and if my turbo is not a real garrett turbo. Its a fake one with garrett housing.

Look at the wheel sizes, trim and a/r also shown.

Aftermarket housings are available in many configuration/sizes but I like Garrett Outline Interchangeable components.

Swapping housing may fit with machining the compressor and turbine housings.

FYI the T28 is now truly a GT25 series with the 53mm wheel. 53.8mm = GT28 series

Compressor Wheel Size
Ind Dia. - Exd Dia. Trim A/R

T28 46.5mm - 60.0mm 60 0.60

GT2871R 51.2mm - 71.0mm 52/56 0.60
GT2871R 49.2mm - 71.0mm 52 0.60
GT2871R 53.1mm - 71.0mm 56 0.60

Turbine Wheel Size
Ind Dia. - Exd Dia. Trim A/R

T28 53mm - 41.7mm 62 0.64

GT2871R 53.8mm - 46.9mm 76 0.64/0.86
