Has anyone found a way to convert a RB26DETT AWD trans, via cutting or swapping the AWD diff, to a RWD application?
I have one sitting in my shop and using it as a coffee table isn't working well. I think I want to convert it to work with an RB25.. just for shitz and giggles. I know its a little backwards, (RB26 AWD trans to a RB25 block) but I think I want to give it a try.
thoughts?

This came up awhile back on ZY, here is what MJR had to say.
You can cut the transfer off, but to do it properly you need to also weld up a bridge on the front cover plate and have the case flange and cover machined flat. Some tuners do it completely ghetto and just weld a plate on there and goop sealant so it won't leak. That or they just weld it shut, ensuring you'll never be able to change the bearings inside the transfer. You also need to supply oil to the bearings because they sit way higher than the oil level and rely on splash lubrication from the parts that are no longer in the transfer. Then you need to use the front half of the the GT-R prop shaft because it bolts to the transfer. If the front half doesn't mate to your rear half, you need to use the GT-R diff because it uses a six-bolt CV joint. Or you could just sport for a custom shaft.

I helped do one as listed above, cut the transfer case off, machine it flat, the weld a plate over it.
It's Scott Bulwada's car, Welcome to the Buwalda Hybrids International Website - Home of the Triple Threat! (http://www.buwaldahybrids.com), he did the majority of the work ahead of time and I assisted in the final assembly. Not a bad way to get rid of the transmission as they are pretty damn useless otherwise. I know a guy who has three of the damn things.

I've done it before, same way as stated above. go for it it's not that hard just mill it nice and flat make a 1/4" thick aluminum plate drill and tap put some silicone gasket sealer on it and your good to go.
