Just installed my boost gauge and its overreading by 0.2 of a bar. (0.4 at idle, 0.2 too much boost on WOT, etc).

Also, when I switch the ignition on and all the gauges sweep, the boost gauge lags behind and goes past max reading, resting against one of the buttons before returning to zero (well, 0.2!).

When the ignition is off, it returns to the bottom rest (like all the other gauges).

I swapped the looms around and every time the boost gauge came up with the same problem, so I can discount loom/earth. Looks like an internal problem with the gauge :(. Also seems that the startup sequence's lag differs between half a second and 3 seconds. Sometimes its pretty instant, but sometimes it takes ages. The backlight seems to of stopped working too!

Do I open it up?

These are the gauges in question:

Is it new? Send it back. If not, contact HKS about repair/replacement. Opening it up will certainly make it void of any kind of warranty.

HKS Europe don't want to know, the gauge is discontinued :(

Thank you for your email,

HKS Europe is primarily a distribution centre for parts and we do not have facilities to make repairs on meters. All items would have to be sent back to HKS Japan. The cost of which would make it uneconomical to be repaired as it would be greater than purchasing a replacement. Most HKS meters are also now discontinued and the majority can no longer be repaired as parts are no longer manufactured for them.

If your meter is under 12 months old, has been purchased from an authorised HKS Europe Distributor or Dealer, you are the original purchaser and have proof of purchase then you can return it to the selling dealer for return or replacement. The selling dealer will need to contact us directly regarding this.

Regards,

Nathan Dodson

Well.. that blows... Unless you're an electronics expert on circuit boards and what have you, opening it up could be pointless and a headache to reassemble. Either sell it or just keep it and do the math to determine your actual boost.

I think the latter is the best option. I may have a peak inside if I'm feeling brave (the backlighting has suddenly stopped working so I may need to replace the LED anyway).

before you do that, try contacting HKS USA OR HKS Japan.
