lol,
thats whats happening to me!
the idle bogs up and down, and hits low rpm then boom it turns off on me,
is that the same for you?

thats exactly what happens. for some reason i think its a timing problem

I have been having injectors slowly going bad is what its been for me, I put used ones in and it ran great for a while but its starting again, so I'm just going to stop being a tight ass and buy new ones

shit!
tell me guys,
when your idles going crazy do you shoot out black smoke?
lol
i also suspect my injectors going foul on me.
i talked to some people and they said it might can be sensors (i.e connections/plugs)
and fuel issues, like me cause of my black smoke and idle issue.
fuel issues like fuel pump, leaky injectors/going bad.
and you are also correct on timing.
friend said incorrect ways of doing the timing can make your car run like shit like someone said above, my timing was fixed bt using a light and doing w.e angles it needed,
BUT i didnt do the other precautions by taking off the TPS and reving like 2k or something like that,
ill get into more of it when i actually do it.
give me some of your input.

because it is a throttle problem i went in to check the throttle body and cable. the throttle was opening up perfectly fine but there was a little amount of build up inside. i clean that out and tighten the cable, and so far the car is running perfectly fine now. try and see if that might work. you will emit black smoke to if your throttle body or intake system has some type of gunk build up

and sometimes it fixes itself then goes crazy all over again

did you ever try cleaning out the intake system?
my car has been running real good since i cleaned it, especially the throttle body

yeah lol,
i cleaned out the TB,
and did a induction cleaning on it.
i suspect a leaky injector,
w/e ill find out later,
thanks for your input

i have the same problem, for me its the idle control valve, i dont wanna take off the stock manifold to replace it so i just opened the throttle body up alittle bit and it keeps it from dying, so my guess would be bad idle control valve, a leaky injector would cause it to sputter when you drive at low rpms

Its the IAC motor. They get clogged up with carbon and don't respond fast enough. Replace it and I'm sure you'll be ok. AND PLEASE, DON'T SAY THE DAMN CAR FIXES ITSELF. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. YOU SOUND LIIKE MY BUDDY AND IT SOUNDS RETARDED.

forget the iacv. the iacv is obviously working to compensate for some problem you have. try increasing your idle with tps disconnected. looks like you set your idle to low. double check your tps voltage. also try resetting everything by disconnecting ecu for 10 minutes. you should get a consult cable . will save your butt.

i think mine is doing the same thing too...but only sometimes too...like everytime in the morning, when i start it...the RPM drops to like almost zero...and goes up to 1g and down to like 200rpm and then normals out....but then just yesterday..i drove about 40 miles...turned off the car..for about 15 min...started it up and it died..2 times actually....im thinkin its the mass air flow going out...with so much heat in the engiine compartment, but then im also thinkin its the throttle too since i havent checked it...what do ya think? does it sound like your car too...its all stock 96 red SE model, i mean stock

Haha I have a 95' and I'm getting about the same thing. Come to a stop sign/light my idle drops to like 200 rpms and dies. I'll give it a little baby rev and it will mellow out and idle at 1k for me. Runs fine while driving. I was thinking that it may have been due to I just put on an intake pipe with stock box and have two big open holes on the bottom of the box. I've heard of some how "resetting" your ecu some how and it will readjust to the minor changes? Stock KA's? This is very weird.

2 common causes that causes an SR20DET to die at idle (but run fine otherwise)
1) A non recirculated BOV (vents to atmosphere as in "pshhh" sound). Lets off metered air. So your car runs really rich. Worse when you run higher boost or larger turbos. But usually doesn't kill the engine, just drops the rpms.
2) Bad IACV. This has been the woe of mine for over a year. Spent many thousands of $$$ retuning, upgrading to AEM, replacing crap trying to bandaid the symptoms without knowing it was the iacv. Cleaning this IACV may help or may not. Its a wear item, your engine is probably 15 years old and these aren't designed to last that long. Clean it, if it doesn't help then it probably needs replacing. And they're around $175 ($300 list).
If you have really crappy cold starts, especially if its cold outside this is a symptom. Mine is horrible in the winter but find in the summer.
