I called in today to this guy that was selling a 1995 240sx going for 3500 plus he was up for lending up a deal. He told me that it was a salvage title with a fully repaired rear end collision. He then told me it needed new shocks for it to run just about new. He asked me if i was planning to race it and when i said yeah he told me that he bought anoter 240sx just for that reason. He was really cool in telling me that if i was planning to fix it up he wasn't gonna recommend the car to me cus he got the new 240 in order to drop a SR20DET into it. well just asking all around.. Would it be a smart buy if i was planning to do full on work to it? (Transplant and Conversion)

thats depends on whether you can register a salvaged car.  i belive that in most places you cant.

if its just for racing, then fine.  but that means you need to tow it to the race, not drive it

I wouldn't suggest buying a salvaged car to race and drive on the street. That's a lot of pressure and if this car was rebuilt than, well... it's not worth putting money into. I'd buy it for every day driving, but I'd keep my S13 alive and healthy. Think about the fact that a '96 would now cost about 9 grand or so.

depends on if it was repaired CORRECTLY! if youre seriously interested ask him if you can take it to a reputable body shop for an inspection....may cost a small $ but well worth it if it is a piece of s***
my car is a salvage title....bought it wrecked and repairing properly now. resale value if is less, but repaired properly with pics before-after helps.
most states will title salvage, some insurance co's wont insure! call and ask.

also depends on why it was written off.  was there frame damage?  was it in a flood?  I have a buddy that has a teg gsr that was written off cause they stole his wheels, stereo, and leather interior.  no damage, but the cost to replace those parts was more than the car
