View Full Version : Reading these forums gets me worked up

I have to make my self not look at this site, because when I do i start to get into this crazy mentality that my car is everything!
I am constantly browsing for prices but then i realize I dont have enough money. : ( I feel like everyone on here has a turbo but me!

Some one console me. The only reason i keep my sanity is i tell my self that i am only 17.... and most of the people on the forums that have fast cars are older.... this is true right?

lol man, take a look at the members on this forum, then count up all these turbo cars, you are not alone. Trust me.

Its just that us stock people don't really post about anything, and the turbo people post looking for help, or giving dyno sheets and such.

So its not like a lot of us have turbo, it's really a small number.

I think most of the people with turboed 240s are pretty economically stable and some are married too. So the wife brings in more money to the table.:D The only people not in that position that I can think of are jeff240sx and boosteds14.

There are a few other that have SRs or KA-Ts or RBs or CAs that are not married. Not really sure on thier economic status, but I know a few in my area that are turbo and not married, I don't think I know anyone in my area that is turboed (or almost turboed for some of you in the middle of your swap ;) ) and married.

Some people on here just are good with money, in other words are cheap asses who cut corners (like me :D), or have good jobs and don't waste money on other things.

I'd like to say that my wife didn't help me with one cent of my car, "that's all on me", she says.... but I don't hear her complain when she gets to drive my fun 5spd SR instead of the auto KA... funny how that works ;)

Yeah, my wife always complains about how much money I dump into my S13, but she always wants to drive it....
Well, now that she has an S13 of her own, perhaps that shall soon be remedied...

I understand... i guess what bothers me the most is the kids at my HS that have camaro SS's and Ws6 transams and stuff. I'd like to be able to at least hang, but I know i would get blown away.

Haha, just wait till you go to school.

A quick list of cars that I think are pretty nice for college kids.

Lamborghini Diablo, black.
Acura NSX, red
Acura NSX, black
BMW E46 M3, white, red, black, blue...yeah, there's lots of them
G35 Coupe 6speed, Black

Yeah, when I realize my car cost less than changing the tires on those cars...well, it's a weird feeling.

I am always getting the third degree when I buy stuff for the car. All the stuff that I feel I "need" she doesn't agree. So after dumping close to $7000 into the car I am done. Which I am completely for because my addiction was getting out of hand. But the funny thing is she loves to drive it and loves the attention she gets because she's a chick driving a modded car! ::go figure:::rolleyes:

Now my goals are to get the car in the best running condition possible. Fix all exhaust leaks, replace dying gaskets, and all normal maintness stuff

I need to pick up another 240 eventually so she can have her own ride (modded N/A KA);) Then maybe I can get her off my back

Best way to have a turbo: get a good education to have a high paying job afterwards. I got lucky. I'm finishing my degree in 2 examns. :)

Come to my HS and you'll see that and many more.

One kid owned 2 WS6s (crashed both  ) a Mini Cooper, X5, and now a 2K3 M3 (He was going to buy a skyline but I guess he realized that he wasn't going to do anything to it so no point).

Some other cars in my school include 3 new WRXs, a 2.5 RS, 2 TSi (one AWD, one not), Mercedes CLK 430, 3.2 TL, 2 Audis, and the grandaddy of them all a new EVO

And all those cars are owned by Seniors, cept one of the TSis.

There are other cars like Preludes and civics with wings and tails and paint jobs and such, but nothing worth mentioning.

Oh ya and a janiot owns an NA supra, and a teacher owns a VR4

I feel your pain man. I'm 19 going on 20 and I finally ordered the front clip for my car. At the same time, though, I think i've pretty much kept up with most of the people on the forum. I've been on here since close to when it was started, and i've watched everyone get turbo kits and engine swaps. Now it's my turn :D

Hey halo is that the TypeX spoiler? that looks FABULOUS :not gay:

does it bolt up to the stock hatch (w/ stock spoiler?) or do i have to go find a spoilerless junkyard hatch?

Hey man, at least you can take pride in saying that YOU bought it YOURSELF, not mommy and daddy. You will appreciate and love your car that much more when you work for it yourself. :)

I had the old spoiler. Had to have the holes refiled. Had to have new holes drilled. Then the spoiler fits! ;)

If you ever feel that your car isn't good enough for you, park it for 3 months and have to walk/public transport. Trust me, you'll appreciate that stock car so much more.

I'm living the situation right now. Blasted tranny.

Work dude. My car has $8k and blood, sweat, and skin slivers in it. If I paid people, that price would be closer to $12k.
Yea.. I'm a single person who went turbo. At 19. It's really not hard, and if I had the information that is currently out back then.. it would have been sooner.
People need more work ethic and less sniveling.

There's not a single thing I've done to my car that I didn't pay for, and it's probably about $6k worth since 2000, not including the car. I could've spent more, but I have a life other than playing with cars (not saying other ppl don't) and I don't have a job that pays superbadass. I save some money, I pay some bills, and then I mod my car. I'm also big on preventative maintenance, so replacing my clutch and my entire hydraulic system (brake and clutch) took money away from other mods.
I could've been turbo a LONG time ago.. I just chose not to.
I chose to not owe money on mods, and to have a car that can handle the power before it has that kind of power..

hmmm... Ok, well I lied. My wife bought me my Zenki lip.

True that. I was able to save up $7,500, but I have decided to save it to pay off my college education. $4,500 to go for 5 years of tuition and a mechanical engineering degree, hopefully:D .

Go at your own pace, screw what anyone else has done or is doing to their car.

I'm 19 going on 20 and I didn't even have a car in HS, got my car two weeks before college. The only mod I have on my car is an exhaust. You will eventually find out that good things comes to those that wait. Also never rush to buy this or that...because you will find a better deal down the road. Oh yea.....never rush on modding the car....unless you have some serious $$$ and time on your hands incase of downtime.

I know how you feel though....that's why I'm going to stay away from the forums......

man i feel really old and dumb now... :( unfortunately i've dropped out of college almost three years ago and im twenty going on twenty-one (woo hoo :D ). Anyways, its not like im to much older than you, but i guess here are some tips of advice i can give you.

1. Well i dont think college is for everyone... "but" education is the key to a better future

2. SAVE money, set a goal, and DONT spend to much till you meet that goal. you'll reach that goal sooner than you think, if you keep to a budget.

3. Dont give a f#@k about those other kids in high school. I dont even hang out with half of my good friends that i had in high school. trust me life after high shcool is sooooo different.

the other day i realized if i didnt get a gym membership (that i dont even use) and didnt buy my rims... last week i would have 2g's... thats almost a sr right there.

oh yeah... and GT specR wants a HONDA... thats why hes leaving :D jk

Take it from a dad of three college students/school teacher...
There are 2 kinds of people in this world...
Them that go to college and .....them that don't.

The key to success in college is...DON"T go until you are ready. I went into the Army and was married 3 years before starting college. I have 2 masters degrees now. My folks thought I'd never make it out of high school. :D My oldest is a 5th year freshman.;) . My daughter is more of the student type and is a junior already. My youngest (glad jr) is a freshman majoring in Japanese here. You are right though. Not everybody is cut out for universty work. Some gel better in vo-technical schools.

Cool stuff. I enjoy working on my car a lot though, so DIY projects and fabricating your own peices let me do that without burning a hole in my wallet. Having good friends selling parts at extremely cheap prices (Greddy DD, whiteline swaybars, Q45 calipers, etc) helps out a lot though.
