View Full Version : All oil leaked out...oil line on SR

So...I had a small oil leak on my SR..looked to be from the oil feed line to the turbo (leaking at the block) so I tried to replace the beat up copper washers on the banjo bolt with some new washers from Auto Zone.
So...Next day I started the car and all of the oil appeared to have leaked out overnight from that fitting, most likely from starting the car that morning.
I went around trying to find REAL crush washers today...NOTHING...am I insane or should auto parts stores know what these are? Tried all of em...and Lowes/Home Depot. Am I missing something...?

How long did you run the car? Pretty hard to lose all your oil from that fitting by just a quick startup unless it wasn't even connected, even then you would have seen and heard the oil leaking and shut it down.
The crush washers are found anywhere, but they have to match size exactly. You may also have a burr or something on the bolt or the block that's damaging the washer, causing it to leak.

I bought an assorted pack of copper washers from Discount Auto. Installed them, applied loctite to the banjo bolt, and torque'd accordingly. No more leaks for me.

I never had luck with oil banjo bolts and copper washers. I took the easy route and went all an fittings on my oil/water lines

aftermarket line? or oem hard line?
i had the same problem but i actually fixed it.
i just replaced it with copper washer and re torque per fsm spec. it did leaked again. then guess what i found?
the nut where the banjo connected was loose.
check that before u over torque the banjo bolt causing the block the crack.

It's a circuit sports stainless line.
RDM - There was fresh oil all around the area there. I have to assume it's associated with this line because it was running the day prior. It was not until I tried to fix a "small" leak with new copper washers that the problem occurred. I took the new washers off and there is little to no sign of the washers being compacted as they should, or as the used one was.
Also - It was definately tight on there, and I'm fairly certain the connection to the eye part of the line was secure as well. I Will check that again though.
Nissan parts are not, unfortunately, available to me on the weekend and I sort of need the car monday.

UPDATE:
I replaced the washers again with OEM Nissan washers...leak continued. I actually watched it leak this time.
What should that banjo bolt be torqued down to anyway? I tightened it pretty snug...
A friend of mine gave me the AN fitting to go into the block, now I just need one to go from that fitting to the stainless line.
