Hey guys pretty new here, joined the forums to do some research on an s13/14 build with an sr20.

After doing some researching, I'm beginning to lean towards doing a rebuild and swap myself. I figure with the money I save going that route I can just invest in upgrading the internals of the motor. The only problem is I've never done a rebuild or swap, and to be honest I don't really know what I'd be getting myself into.

The car itself will be used mainly on the track and will not be a daily driver by any means. I don't care if I can't pass smog. I'm looking to build the motor up to around 400 hp (i think?) That's the other thing, I'm not really sure how much power I really need/want. Like I said it'll be a track car, used mostly for autocross and drifting (mostly drifting).Hopefully someone can give some suggestions. Having said that, if I do end up rebuilding the motor, I don't even know what components I'd need to be upgrading (or leaving stock), if I'd need to port/polish, what to machine, etc.

As far as my experience level, I know how to do some basic car maintenance, but that's about it. I don't even have a proper toolkit (I'll be getting one soon though). However, I do feel that if I had a proper tutorial of some sort, I could get the job done (any recommendations?)

I think that just about covers it. I'm not looking for anyone to lay out a blueprint on what I should/shouldn't do, I'm just looking for some advice on where I should get started in terms of narrowing down the specifics ie what components i should be looking at, what are some good machine shops, what tutorials i should be using, etc. I appreciate any and all feedback. thanks in advance.

thx for the replies....ya i saw the dvd's you guys are talking about....i'll prolly be picking those up. after looking around some more it looks like most everyone is using cp pistons, eagle connectings rods, walbro fuel pumps and arp studs. most other components look to be a toss up. either way it seems to me that if i'm going to replace a few things, i might as well replace everything with aftermarket components. now the only other issue is cost. I'm hoping to make this thing track worthy while staying under 10 gs. think its possible?

If you are interested, Mike Kondo who I work with for the Dyno I use, does a really good job of building SR's and he is very reasonable on price.

check it out on my site. His contact info is on there.
