View Full Version : Weird shimmy problem

I'm really bored, so I'll post this to get some of you guy's comments.

From 60 to 80 my car shimmeys at the steering wheel for EXACTLY 5 seconds. Then it's some for another 5 seconds. It started doing this just in the last week or so. Before that it was super smooth.

I took it past 80 once and the shimmy died down a lot..but it was still there every 5 seconds..wierd

Hopefully an alignment will fix it but I'm gonna wait until I install my other coilovers before I do that.

Could it be a wheel balancing problem? or maybe something to do with my suspension peices?

It's just really wierd how it shimmys on and off like it does. Never encounterd something like this before.

Thanks!

Check tire pressure in front tires sometimes if its a little low it could cause that but other than that it might just need to be balanced and an alignment

wow..I was thinking I could source you two fronts or maybe rears but I don't know anyone selling a full set.:(

Probably better just to grab a whole other set of coilovers. Depending on the cash you got I can probably help you out. on sourcing a good set.

yeah Im just gonna get a new set. it'll be a couple months hehe gonna do a full gasket replacement on the car and hopefully my cams ras and valve spring when I do it :D then I'll finish the suspension overhaul. either new coilovers or AGX and RS-R race springs. mmm dousan got me spring rates on those and they look yummy :) unless I run across a deal like your keis. then my pfc, injectors, mafs, upgrade the turbo, paint job, I gotta find a first born to sell to afford all this, and still find a life at some point :D

could also be your brake rotors, i've had this problem twice and both times it was because of my brake rotors having grooves in them, when i changed the brake pads/rotors it fixed it...
does it pull left of right slightly when you come to a complete stop? that can be a sign too.

I don't have T/C rod bushings:D

you might be right about the torn tie rod end...those are getting replaced with teins in the next 2 weeks.

My 96 s14 does the same thing. But I havent had time to get alignment. Also the tire pressure thing does help I filled up my tires and the shimmy died down, but was still present.

p.s nice pic.
