I hear a little something on mine when I first start it. I didnt know if it were possibly the ras or chain, but it goes away when it warms up.

Hi,
To get rid of the "marble-in-tin-can" noise coming from the front of your valve cover by removing the two guides for the upper chain. The guides are considered unnecessary by Nissan as seen in their TSB. DO NOT REMOVE THE GUIDE FOR LOWER CHAIN.The procedure is written for a 96 S14 but should be similar for all DOHC engines.

how old is your timing chain anyways?
mine is brand spanking new less than 100 miles on it. out of no where i started to have the rattling sound.
it started when i tried to move cas then it started that rattling noise.

If its a redtop, they actually revised the tensioner on the blacktop. So it may do you some good to replace it. Outside that, you could take a look at the oil pressure, and verify that your pump is still good. I actually removed the upper guide on my blacktop to cure the sound you're describing. IF you do break open the front cover, replace your guides with the metal ones. The plastic ones will inevitably break apart.

I had the same proplem, the thing is that your timing chain and all the other parts around it are worn out and its making noise. This is bad becuase this is what helps the pistons out, what I think is time for is that you need a new timing chain kit for your sr, its better knowing that your car is running at its peak, so you should change it before it makes a big expensive problem. :rawk:

same thing is happening with me, exactly the same. But Im just going to get the timing chain kit. When your car sits for a minute or two just idling, does it seem like it wants to die?
