I recently rebuilt my clinder head and replace my headgasket, along with a few others over at my fathers house. Once the car was started I noticed that my car will not hold a idle, and/or almost die unless i have the my defrost on.(bumps the rpm's to 1K) Both of my timing chains are dead on but and the car is driveable, it's just seems like it is running super rich on any rev above 3k. There were no check engine lights on in the car until i started driving it home. Now i'm showing EGR (which was removed and cap'd some time ago), knock sensor, and closed loop. Plus when i'm driving and i give it a little more than partial throttle, the engine temp gauge will dive into the c until i let off of the throttle at which it will go back up. Last is that my tach is jumping about 3 hundred rpm under any throttle above 2k rpm. I've tried to researched many different threads and other forums but i have not found the answers i'm lookin for. sorry if this is somewhat of a re-post but i need some help with this.

Knock sensor= could it just be a faulty sensor that makes the light come on?

Closed loop= could the knock sensor cause this mode to be active instead of open loop?

(and could improper distributor timing contribute to these lights coming on? plus the tach issue?)

EGR=would the removal of all other emission lines be really neccessary to get this problem fixed?

(and what the hell is going on with the temp gauge moving under load?)

Any help with this would be deeply appreciated. Thanks!

To answer my own questions... Coolant temp sender was just barely broken. O2 sensor was faulty and last...Distributor timing was off.

Hah! yeah, it helps. the car doesn't do that good of a job of talking back. i figured that i'd just go ahead with a follow up, just in case someone else has similar question.
