The information :

The engine is a stock SR20.

Launched in 1st gear, there was a large pop noise right before complete loss of power.

On a cold start the engine will operate as normal, as it warms it begins to sputter and blow smoke.

Engine stumbles even under light load.

Ran a compression test, 150 all the way across (Tested both cold and warmed up).

After warming up the car and taking the plugs out for the test Cyl #4 had smoke coming out of the spark plug hole.

From all of this the only explanation I personally could come up with was a fried ring.

I have yet to run a leak down test.

The questions :

Is this a fried ring?

If this is not a fried ring, what is it?

Is it worth running a leak down test?

Even though Cyl #4 is making 150psi, could it be possible that it will CREATE 150psi but will not HOLD 150psi, i.e car can run at idle (no load) and when driven begins to leak (load)?

Thanks alot!

Do a leak down test and figure out where your leaking and how much. Its possible to build good compression numbers and find something wrong.

Looks to be blue, there is no smoke on initial start up only after warming the engine. However there was a presence of brown smoke when it was revved.

Unless I am misunderstanding your reply, I've felt leaking intercooler piping before, and it was nothing like anything I described. This is not a boost leak problem.

Spun a bearing? Would I not have heard some form of knocking first?

Thanks for your replies!

I am in no way a mechanic and am turning to Zilvia for help!

It's not a spun bearing... ignore that.. you would hear it if it was.. results of the leakdown? when performing.. listen to where any air is rushing.
