As well as hire staff at least at minimum wage and follow regulations which takes lots of money and time.

While people in china are making change every day and not a lot of money.

Cheap labor.

Back on topic, some of the Japanese/American companies actually use factories in China to make their tyres.
Dunlop is one such company.

I'd HATE to have the price of the Dunlop Z1's get jacked.
I pretty much use that tyre exclusively on my cars.

Bridgestone owns Firestone which is based in Japan.

It's not about buying "American" or not, it all comes down to the the idiots in congress and U.S. companies acquire some balls and "Nationalism" and stop Outsourcing to other countries to make money on the top tier and letting the people suffer.

Buy imports, then you'll be buying U.S. outsourced work and thus you're buying American.

It effects all tire companies who have manufacturing facilities in China

Basically, you're likely to see costs go up for almost every tire company.
It's more the exception, than the rule to have at least some (if not all) of a given company's manufacturing take place in China.

Bridgestone/Firestone, Goodyear/Dunlop/Sumitomo/Falken, Toyo/Nitto, Kumho, are among some that have some manufacturing facilities in China.
If the tariff passes, there's a good chance the pricing in those brands may go up.

As the article mentioned, placing tariffs is going to do more harm than good.
It isn't likely to help US tire manufacturing jobs.
Tire manufacturers will just shift their manufacturing to another country like Indonesia/Vietnam, etc.
People that get hurt, are ppl who sell and distribute tires in the US, consumers, and any tire company that does their manufacturing in China.

Ahhhh Thailand makes some quality stuff. I have lot's of items that I am proud to say was built in Thailand. They also make pretty much the top boxing and MMA gear in the world. I have hand made MT shorts and gloves that destroy any of my "made in the USA" equipment.

Well, according to the article, that's essentially just thing.
companies will move production to another country, like Mexico.
Say hypothetically, the cost of manufacturing in Mexico (vs. China, all things equal) is precisely the same.
Well, it's still going to cost a said company a shitload of $$$ to actually find/build a new factory, and to do so fast.
This hurts the company (which may or may not already support jobs in the US).

IF, the objective was to fight job outsourcing away from the US, then having companies move their factories from China to Mexico (or any other country) does NOT accomplish that objective.

All you really accomplish, is to create job outsourcing away from China.
Furthermore, you're just making it difficult for the company that has their production base in China & consumers.
It's usually not cheap or easy to relocate your center of manufacturing.
higher production costs = lower profit margin for companies + higher prices for consumers.
That's NOT what you want, especially when the economy is in the state it's in.

This is all really nothing new.
Trade Quotas (as per the article) have been around, and have applied to several other Industries.
I am 100% fully AGAINST trade quotas.
The company I work for has to deal with trade quotas all the time.
For smaller companies who have smaller profit margins, it could mean the life or death of a company!

Way I see it, all this does is benefit the large corporations and politicians in America .
It's just a process of making it more difficult (if not eliminating) smaller competitors,
who can't afford the relocating costs of their production facilities on short notice.

Large corporations might be hit to a certain extent as well,
but larger companies usually have factories spread across different countries.
It's probably easier for them to adjust to trade quotas.

Federal and Nankang are Taiwanese which is not part of china. They had different military, government, and currency. the only thing they share is the language. ACER computer and HTC phones are also Taiwanese companies.
