So I bought another unfinished project, probably the last one for awhile, Ill get to it:

redtop sr20det

starts right up
no codes
smoothe idle
crisp throttle response

wont rev past 2-2.2k

tried a good stock sohc KA MAF
had an sr one on it already
No change in performance

has a red water temp sensor from the sohc KA
no temp reading on the cluster
weird noises coming from the maf as the car revs up to 2.2k
sounds like wavy moaning

Could I have a boost leak from inside the turbo?
after a few minutes of running in my driveway, a little bit of oil smoke comes out the exhaust.

I searched all threads, Im still leaning towards the MAF

But maybe could be the ecu too?
I have access to an s13 blacktop ecu if needed

Thanks for all help...much appreciated

the maf is making noise?

the maf is making noise?

yeah just the suction from the turbo

like the impeller blades turning faster.

We came to the conclusion that the center section bearing could be so far worn, that it is hitting the housing. I knew the turbo had some shaftplay, but this was my friends speculation.

The turbo is a HKS gt2535...or whatever the replacement t25 hks unit is

But, no direct noise coming from the MAF itself

Rules for limp mode.

No air moving across maf. = Giant Boost Leak

Bad MAF = Replace with known good one (as in this came off a running car that you saw run, not the one in the back of the garage at your friends house that is his "backup" that's "totally good man".)

Bad Wiring = ECU not seeing maf because you've got wires all cross along the way or one of your butt splices hasn't seated. (usually occurs after SAFC install or on first time swappers who do bad harness work)

So with a code 55, it is still in limp mode?

Everything was soldered, shrink wrapped, wiring was done by a local Nissan wiring pro who i do somewhat trust. But maybe I should reinvestigate

Could the MAF be getting fried if the wiring had crossed somewhere, and if one of the 3 wires bw, b w werent hooked up properly, wouldn't the ECU would see that?
