SOME SAY YES AND SOME SAY NO
i think it would be good , but i dont know if their is a pressure drop when using one ..i mean i know that thier is a drop but is it dangerous..
lets hear who runs them and who hates them ..

if there was a detrimental pressure loss then no one would use them.

Prolonging oil life is never bad.

Got one on mine. I have like 13psi on idle at operating temperature. If you're realy anal about pressure, get an S15 oil pump, they flow a bit more then S13/S14 SR pumps.

You're not gonna see a pressure drop unless you mount the oil cooler on top of your house. Seriously though, the 3 ft of line is not gonna hinder your oil pump. Get an oil cooler, it's a good thing.

I think its a good thing i was getting up pretty high oil temps on track drifting.
oil cooler makes you feel better, with cooler oil you have more power too.

yea its good engine insurance but make sure you get one with a thermostat due to you living in a city that has climate changes. I had one on my SR and it seemed to run alot better not only will it run cooler but its gonna bump your oil capacity by about a quart.

With any turbocharged/supercharged car, much more heat gets added to the oil system than with an N/A car. Not having an oil cooler is stupid - my coolant temps while beating on my SR went down about 20* after installing an oil cooler. Also, all Skyline motors (RB25 and RB26, not the silly RB20) came with water-cooled oil coolers. It's just a sound idea.
Also, I never had my oil pressure drop below 12psi or so, and had plenty of pressure up high in the revs (even while it was 100* + outside), so I would say the pressure drop is negligible.

I don't run a thermostat, but I do take it real easy until the oil's up to 160* or so. In Philly, I'd say you should invest in one though, they're only about an extra $100. I also didn't get bumped a whole quart, more like a half a quart (to 4 quarts even with a filter change) when I ran it on my SR.

I vote yes too. Mocal make nice T-Stats for oil coolers BTW.

I plan to add one this month to my LS swap, I am going for a 25 row cooler.

Get the earls oil thermo, their about 100 bucks and cant go wrong with earls products. To answer your question Jamg use negligence = rodnock. I have no oil cooler YET and tracked my car a few times, just gotta monitor those temps and add some extra oil on a stock pan at the track.

I say yes! I'm about to buy a SR and among the obvious parts to complete the swap I already ordered a 16 row oil cooler kit.

HAHA...YOU ARE A NOOB!!!
SRs are notorious for thinning out oil. Doesnt take much for it to cook your oil temp over 120 degrees and to start breaking down. The hotter your oil, the less capable it is lubricating the engine and the thinner it gets. Thinner oil = less oil pressure. Less oil pressure = rod knock or rod making a new drain for you on the side of your block.

Yes sir! Thermostat is built into the cooler, they're cheap, they're giant, they're awesome.
Hell, mine's not even hooked up to anything yet! Stock-ish KA = no need... Supercharged KA = probably still no need, but it's getting it anyway!

SR oem bearing clearences are generally tight compared to say ACL, so the slightest loss in oil viscosity or raise in oil temp results in throwing a bearing.
I have an FC oil cooler, they are indeed GIANT, and they do have a built in thermostat

I'm of the opinion that you don't need an oil cooler on a street driven car. You can never use enough power to really heat things up.
A GReddy oil pan adds quite a bit of cooling and adds baffles plus extra oil capacity if you just need a little more cooling.
It's a must have for drifting/track driving.

I don't know, but that would really suck!!!! I'm gonna see if I can remove mine somehow

You should be able to remove it and replace it. When it comes time to hook mine up, that's what I'll do. It's an old tstat!

huh? I bought a FC cooler.. then went to a hot rod shop and had them give me fittings and line. $300 later, I'm at my current setup sans being hooked up.

speaking of oil coolers... does anyone know if there are any other less expensive alternatives for an oil cooler? due to the location i am mounting mine, i need this specific size (long rectangular shape) and both inlet and outlet on the same side.. here is an example:

so far it looks like my only choice is the setrab "nose mount" coolers which are commonly used on porsches.
feel free to chime in peoples

Definitely yes on an oil cooler. It'll be the next thing I install on my vehicle.
When I was driving all over the Vegas, Colorado, Utah, and Cali last Summer the heat was killing my oil pressure.
Most SR swaps tends to have significant cooling issues due to a number of reasons (bad radiator fan set-ups, no more undertray, coolant system leaks, FMICs, etc.).
All that heat is absorbed, in part, by your engine oil which in turn leads to a reduction in viscosity.
My advice: Make sure your coolant system is up to spec first. Then invest in an oil cooler if you spend a lot of time at the track or live in a hot climate.

I am. i enjoy it. I peiced together my kit from summit racing. if any one wants the part numbers i used as far as the fittings go i have the info. together cost under 300. I use the greddy thermo sandwich.

I'm running a stock ka. For oil cooling I went with the Greddy oil filter relocation, -8an aeroquip lines, crapload of fittings, earls' oil cooler, oil thermostat. I see about 80*C daily on street and freeway. On the track it varies on how many runs, but usually don't go over 95*C.

For sr guys i recommend not using a sandwich plate but to spend the extra cash and get a tomei or stance oil block.
