Hey I was wondering what it would take to hit a goal Hp of 400? what would i need to do? What about on a Sr20Det?

Thanks

maybe a new car, for that much money put into it making it a 400Hp beast. You could easly buy a Supra Twin Turbo, but $1000 worth of mods into it and you will have around 420rwhp. Don't waste your time on a 240SX.

well if u wanna put a 240 up to the task of ripping a supra, u dont need 400 horsepower, 300 would be sufficient, i believe, and to be unique, i believe thats the main reason to do the 240-t

I think there's something really special about tuning a $20K car to match a $40 or $50 or even more. I would suggest turbo-ing your KA after you do some MAJOR engine work. You can easily get to 300-350 (well, not easily). It also depends if you want low or high-end power SR20DET vs. KA24DE). It's a hard decision to make.

sr20det on stock internals can only handle about 350hp(with upgraded turbo and intercooler). I say build up your ka with stronger internals and throw a big ass turbo on. If your lucky...5000 dollars and i think with a lot of boost, you can get about 350hp. Its your choice though...both gonna be about 5-6000 dollars to get 350hp. But i think parts availability is better for the ka. Thats important because you will be breakin a lot of stuff with that type of power...or something like that...better wait to hear from some other people.

I think it's gonna take A LOT more than $5K. The turbo isn't the only thing. Port & Polish? Pistons? Tranny work? There's a lot of money involved, to do it safely. Were you talking about the turbo only, Jay?

a complete re-build is in the neighborhood of 2000 i think, all the turbo parts another 3-4k for that kind of horsepower, and then tranny clutch, all the other parts, ur gonna wanna do suspension and brakes, exhaust will most likely have to be changed, intercooler, ur lookin at about 9 k, i'd say

Why doe's everyone forget the CA18DET The ca18 can handle allittle over 350 HP on stock internals, the stock injectors can handle 310 HP (there 370cc) so those would need to be upgraded to get 400 HP, the internals are what really jack the price tag for 400 HP. All a C18 needs is a T3 or larger turbo, intake, exhaust, FMIC, boost controller and some type of fuel management (either a chip or piggy back system) to get you to the high HP, just get internals then jack up the boost.

See how simple that is?!

your post was the first that i read and i need to respond. i just want to ask why would i be wasting my time on a 240? why are you even making comments on this forum if you think 240 are a waste of time? i think a 240 would look alot better then a supra, plus they look more agressive.

Thanks for the imput guys and ladies, Umm lets see, now if the car was for drifting we would be looking at a stronger low end. Now i have heard about the CA20 but i don't know much about it. Could you swap around blocks and heads from Ka Sr and Ca?? Oh and i know there are 240 pushing more than 400hp how did they achieve that much power?

Don't know if anyone cares, but what I plan to do is buy a junkyard KA engine, rebuild the whole thing with stronger internals piece by piece and then turbo that engine. This way, I won't void my warranty on the current engine. Another benefit of this is when the winter comes around here in NY, I can just put the original back in. Anybody want to donate some crower rods and JE pistons to me?
Actually, does anyone know where I can get the best pricing on those?

Ok i said 5-6000 but that is the price that i would get it done for. My friend sells car parts and his father in law has a shop that does engine work. Sorry about incorrect price quotes...s13grl..haha j/k. Ok but maybe if you dont have hook up's, 7-9k.

There's a guy who spent about $15K on his '97 240 (maybe you guys heard of him, he won the '99 NOPI nationals?). He spent the 20K to get 318 hp to the wheel safely. He turboed his KA and runs 12.9 with 15PSI Boost. All this money was spent on the tranny, internals, turbo components, etc. He actually says he spent $20K on aftermarket parts, but he also had some dope-ass body parts on it. So, I'm thinking about 5K for body, 15K's left over.

I just spent about $6000 on my KA and I firmly believe I can squeeze 350 to the wheels, maybe more, I have a small turbo because I like to autocross the car. If I had a bigger turbo for more of a drag setup I would definately be making over 400. Chris May in atlanta dynoed 435 at NOPI in his built KA turbo. Check my link to see the mods and pics of the engine.

PSI, your car is really dope. I have a pic of the engine bay on my wall lol . Anyway, gonna try and dyno the car? How much boost did you have doing 13 1/4 mi?

when I ran 13.4 believe it or not I was at 10psi when I did 105mph I was at 14 psi. I am going to the track this wednesday night at 20psi with open exhaust, should be in the 12's for sure. Gonna dyno it when I get some dough, I'll post the #'s

Hey PSI, what class do they stick you in in autox with the turbo?

Interesting to hear all this talk. 400HP is my eventual goal with my car, but to do it' i'm really thinking about an s15 sr20det. They make 250 on stock boost and internals, so I figure I could definately crank that up a bit. If not though... does anyone have any info on the RB26? It would be nice to have some information on that. I'm sure it wouldn't be an easy swap, but then again, neither is the S15 SR motor.

Are you competetive in SM? I don't know if I want to go for STS, DSP, or SM. I can do a limited n/a setup for STS/DSP or maybe a CA/SR/KA-t for SM. I'm DSP right now, but I would love to go f/i sometime in the future. What do you think?
