whats up guys.
alright so i just did the sr swap into my 92 S13. everything is wired corectly according to the diagrams
go to start the car and it starts but sputters and dies. after a while we narrowed it down to the MAF being the problem.
if you cover the MAF with your hand, restricting the amount of air going in, the car will run, rev, blow off, everything fine which baffles me.
i have tried to move the MAF farther away from the turbo inlet but nothing changed. i am currently using the stock rubber tube and the intake with the MAF at teh end near the front of the fender on the driver side.
can anybody suggest something other than getting a new MAF? i have 2 KA MAFs and 1 SR MAF that i have tried with all the same results. i am pretty sure that all 3 of those are not FUBAR'd

do you have an SAFC or ECU tuned for the Z32 MAF?

no i do not, it is a stock ECU and no piggybacks or other tunning software.
i only have teh 1 sr MAF and 2 KA mafs. all 3 of them came out with the same result

You need SOHC KA MAF, if you're using KA24DE MAF I don't think it will work right.

you need an SAFC if you wanna use a differnt MAF

yea try a sohc maf, the dohc won't work. youll need the plug for the sohc maf tho its smaller than the sr an dohc one

if it did this with the sr maf...have you ck'd your timing?

timing should be fine. like i said it ran, revved, blew off, idled, everything perfect when you have your hand over the MAF restricting the air flow but as soon as you take your hand off, it sputters and dies.

doesnt sound "fine" when it is running, that just me though. i still say timing, you say it should be right, but have you actually used a timing gun to make sure. like you said you are looking for help, im just throwing out my 2 cents, take it or leave it.

i just drove the car with a buddy sitting on the engine to my culdisac and back (not very far at all so dont flame) and it ran fine. also have a vid that i can post up later.
it is the MAF FOR SURE. the wiring is supposed to be correct since a running sr was in this car before and it is the same exact harness. i personally saw this car run with the other sr.
anybody know what the hell is going on?

If I were you I would double check for vaccuum leaks, block off the BOV for now, and double check your timing before you proceed any further. Any of these problems could make the MAf look like the problem and could even be helped by "putting yout hand in front of it"

there are 2 big holes on the rubber intake pipe for the BOV and valve cover did you plug those

yes i have replaced the stock intake tube with just a solid rubber tube with no lines coming from it.
if the timing wasnt right, the car would not have ran the length of a football field twice, only running pig rich.
if there was a vacuum leak, the BOV would not be activating while driving and it would not idle smooth.
i am 99% positive that the MAF is the culprit, i just have to find another one now. i had almost the same problem in my spec v.
