ok, so the day i got my ka24 (i got through a local guy) running i took it to the beach, on the way back there is a small canyon road. about half way up the road my engine starts dying. i crawled to the top, shut off the car, then the gauge read that i had overheated. i found that my lower rad hose had come off (which is weird because i had just tightend it) i reattached the hose, let the engine cool, filled it with coolant and the engine will not start. when i try to start it, the starter cranks the flywheel and the clutch fan spins (so it must not be seized) as well but it will not turn over. i kick started it to see if anything had siezed and i was hoping to break it loose or something... it started but ran shitty for ten seconds or so then i turned it off and it still wont start.

although, now when it cranks, it builds tons of pressure in the rad and makes the water spray out when i open the rad cap (when it is cold). i figure something must be clogged which is why the rad hose blew off. i checked for a stuck thermostat but i found that there was none.

i know i have fuel and spark, if anyone has come across this problem or have any idea of what it could be please let me know, iether on here or txt me what you think it is, my cell is 530 613 5703

thank you very much zilvia and gurus

No what happened is that you blew the head gasket or cracked the head. You will have no compression in couple of cylinders and the reason is becacuse all the cylinder compression is getting into the cooling system and is pressurizing it.

Keep a closer eye on the temp gauge and it won't be such a costly repair next time.

ok, do you think this could be fixed with a new headgasket or do you think the head warped already? it didnt seem like it overheated very bad, i guess there is only one way to find out...

then only way to find out is to take the head off get a new gasket and take the head to a machine shop to get resurfaced .

you should always have the head trued anyway when doing a hg ... aluminum heads are almost always out of spec (so ive been told)...

^^^ Agreed. Remove the manifolds, pull the head, get it resurfaced/decked, and buy some new head bolts (they stretch when installed and shouldn't be reused).

does anyone know how much it costs to resurface the head? is it even worth it? or should i just buy a different motor

Yeah a full valve job and decking will cost you like $150. A great HG is <$200. New head bolts will run about $40. Definitely cheaper than a new motor.

to fix my KA with a blown H/G

Machine the head $25
OEM head gasket (from dealership) $52
OEM head studs (from dealership) $43
Total $120

slapped it all together Per FSM runs like a champ
