View Full Version : Milling Wheel Hub?

Has anyone ever milled down the backspace of a wheel hub to technically raise the offset? I know this seems kind of ass backwards wanting to raise the offset but it's in order to fit a certain set of wheels that would otherwise not fit.

I would like to go from a 19x10 +25 to a +35. So is it possible to shave a few mm's off the back of the hub to do this and still have it not completely fail and rip in half on me while driving? Yeah I know taking away a lot of structure, etc. but given that we put slip on spacers and take away threads to put on lug nuts I figured this would kind of sort of follow the same idea.

Note, this is not for an s-chassis for these wheels to go on to. I just know I will have better luck here on figuring this out about wheels than anywhere else.

get longer wheel studs.

get longer wheel studs.

That has precisely nothing to do with what he's asking.

OP, you don't want to do that. Some wheels have the separate casting marks where the back of the "face" meets the "hat"/mounting surface - on these types of wheels, I would feel OK machining down the mounting surface down 10mm or so. On a true one-piece wheel, with a solid casting throughout the back, I wouldn't risk it.

It's up to you, but you're obviously not using expensive multi-piece wheels, so the *real* answer is to sell yours and buy a set in the offset you want.

Only problem is they're factory BMW wheels, however, I may just end up with replicas (in same offsets) if this is possible.

19x9 +25
19x10 +25

Wish I could get them in a slightly higher offset but don't see it as an option. I also wouldn't mind at least tryyyying them at that offset before making a final decision but I don't know of anyone with wheels anywhere close to that size/offset in order to make a determination.
