Welp, I'm pretty hell bent on kit a water/alcohol injection kit, before I've having trouble finding a kit of quality.

Apparently aquamist makes the best kits but I'd like to spend no more than 300 on a kit. Those go for 500+

So far I've looked at liquid cool..looks decent and spearco.

Any others?
I met a guy with a 12 second MR2 that swears by the spearco but I'm a little weary of the fact that it uses vaccum pressure to provide the power to shoot out the water.

Any tips insight would be great.

PS. I dont' want to hear about water injection in it of itself. I wanna hear about different kits:D If you don't know what it does then do some research, don't post here!

Thanks,
Jed

You ever thought about a DIY kit for water injection?
I've been thinking how nice it would be to get some alky injection for a couple extra pounds of boost. I'm thinking that a nitrous solenoid that sucks out of the wiper fluid resivour would provide the atomized water/alcohol.. and you can tune it with the jets for the nozzle.
Just a thought :)

what no love for the methanol?

hee hee

actually since emanage controls extra injectors as well... i was playing with the idea of a intercooler water sprayer on wot, and water/alchohal mix injection too....

doesnt seem toooooo hard to figure out if you use something like the emanage?

just get an injector or two, and some kind of solenoid (nitrous?) to suck and tell emanage to control when and how long to keep the spray... sound good?

Good idea. But how would you actuate it? most of this kits have somekinda preasure sensor that will turn on the mist at a certain psi.

Some of these kits are relativley cheap enough to warrent the money spend on them.

When I go super DIY, is usually when I end up breaking stuff..lol

How much will a nitrous selenoid push? I'm looking for something in the 100-130psi range.

Meada: interesting idea...I actually plan to get an emanage too...

i think i could set the injector to go off based on rpm? so it would sorta be around where full boost is achieved... say i set it to 3000 or so and then scale it as the roms go up to spray more...

then i could turn up the boost independently and adjust for the alky right?

I thought you were running an AFC.
Anyway.. you'd actuate the solenoid like you would with nitrous.. usually a WOT switch, along with an arming switch. Flip the arming switch, hit WOT, and the solenoid turns on.
As far as the PSI the solenoid would produce.. I don't know. But you can get different sets of nozzles online, and based on the size of the aperature, you won't need as high of a pressure.

Dammit kits people!! kits!!! lol
:D

I suspect with an extra injector controller such as the greddy it'll have a boost pressure point in which the extra injectors'll start actuating. That would be your best bet.

Also another problem is you would need to find a way to turn on the solenoid. I know the tec II has an option to send out a signal based on differnt criteria. I dont' think the emanage has that though.

Jeff: I swear everyone thinks that's an afc..lol it's a AVC-R.
I like your idea...if I don't find a kit I like I might run with it.

See.. the only problem with an idea like that that ALWAYS uses the injectors is you're going to run out of alky or water just driving around... if you go above 3k rpms, you'll use the fluid without needing it. Also, you don't want to rely on something like that, because you'll be boosting at say 14psi (when you should be at 10psi) and run out of the detonation retarder (alky or water) and... detonate.

Final thought on the Greddy emanage... if it did have an option for fuel-by-boost, you'd have to be mated up with an PRofec E-01... I just don't see any other way.
And Jonathan mentioned the AVC-R.. so I just assumed you bought the Apexi fuel controller too...

Apparently the emanage can switch to a speed density table via an optional map sensor you can buy. Kinda cool since you can set it up to go speed density as soon as you run out of your mafs range. I suspect you can find a way to use that pressure sensor to actuate a solenoid.

Jeez..I'm the one that's getting this thread of topic.lol..5pm..I'm goin home!

since my z32 maf is dead im getting a map sensor ^_^

but yah im pretty sure its not signal by boost... i think its only per rpm? even with the profec e-01...

i think jeffs got the right idea on making it a turn on switch... that way just flick the switch, tell the boost controller to go to "super hyper jetfighter that does not fly mode" aka more psi then usual, and hit it...

this alky system is only a temporary 1 time use intercooler type of thing right? thats the philosophy right?

It's more than 1 use. You'll have 1/2 gallon of alky in the wiper fluid resivior, and a jet that supplies not that much. You'll get probably a minute's worth of use.. a few passes down a track or a spirited run down the road.
Alcohol burns cooler than gasoline, and produces more power. It will cool the intake charge, combustion chamber, ward off detonation and make more power.
I love it... just need to quit being poor to get it.

I wonder if a low pressure 270cc injector would work... i've got 8 extra injectors and an old fuel rail to cut up for it....... hmmm

Maeda

and 3 friends that would like the remaining pieces of that fuel rail...

yah i have no job and go to school.... thank god for the 'rents picking up tuition and rent, otherwise id be walking to school...

I did a DIY water install on my 300ZX. Total cost was about $250. I compiled information from several sites and made all the calculations for water-flow in the Z. I posted a write-up on TwinTurbo.net.

Here is a link to the write-up... http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=783987&words=homebrew

The pictures are mostlikely no longer there as I no longer have a web server, but If you are interested I can e-mail you my write-up with the pictures.

E-mail me at [email protected]

Any a few thing on the other posts I've seen here....

1.) trigger the Water with a pressure sensor. (actually an oil pressure kill switch for big rigs but orks opposite with our application.) Boost raises and triggers the switch)

2.) I'm heavy footed with the Z and a gallon of windshield washer fluid last about a week normal driving or a weekend if I'm at the track both days.

3.) Regular fuel injectors won't work... the water will corrode them in short order. Remember there are little steel needels in there.

Good Luch and feel free to contact me with any questions.

Thanks!:D That's exactly what I was looking for.

Don't want to build one myself (no time) so I'm looking for one better than the spearco and less expensive than aquamist..Currently looking at this one made by SMC http://www.geocities.com/rad87gn/tech/SteveCkit.html

What do you think?
