i got a 92 240 le hatch, ka24de, stick, with a cai and a muffler on it

the problem: i can drive it for 2-3 miles and when it gets to norm operating temp it shuts off, when i try to start it it cranks over and over and over but wont start up, then after the temp gauge goes back down all the way it starts up fine and the process repeats itself.

what i know: im getting fuel (http://zilvia.net/f/#), but no spark. im not getting any power from the coil. i have a blown(sealed) headgasket(clean oil, can't even check if it overheats) i tried to fix the gasket but didnt get very far beacause i couldn't get the egr out of the manifold, and i can't get the nut back on it, so its just sitting on there.

what i've tried: i replaced most of the ignition system. the ecu, coil, ignitor, wires, plugs, cap and rotor, and coolant temp sensor

any help would be greatly appreciated

im completely lost and i havent driven my car for 2 months and i miss it =[

if you have a ka24de, i have a MINT egr pipe, if you can get yours off. pm me if you want. maybe your coil wet bad? maybe your distributor timing if off by a few teeth causing misspark?

well the car runs fine for a while so the timing cant be too far off, and i just put a new coil in it so thats fine.
im ok on the egr, mine is fine, it might just be letting in some air or something, but i have an electrical problem so it shouldnt be that either

thanks for the help though

i have the same exact issue on a 96'. I get code 11 and 21 which is camshaft position sensor. I realize that it is internaly in the distributor. Haven't got a chance to replace the distributor but i think it might fix the problem. Anyone else have any input?

MY BROS S14 HAD THIS PROBLEM AND WE CHANGED EVERY THING YOU CHANGED WE FINALLY GAVE UP AND BROUGHT IT TO NISSAN AND MY HOMIE THAT WORKS THERE INSPECTED IT FOR FREE:l101: AND FOUND OUT THAT IT WAS THE FUEL PUMP.. YOU CAN TRY THAT

i do have a gas leak but i also dont have power from the coil when my car dies, i just need to look for codes on it, but no money =/

was the sensor in the distributor??

yea its in the distributor, so i gotta try and get a new one but they are like 300 at kregan! the other thing i have heard is fuel pump, but if i have codes for the distributor i dont see why it would be the pump. I probably wont get to it till at least this weekend so ill let you know what happens. If you get it fixed let me know.

yeah mine im pretty sure its not the pump....

so i figured out how to get ecu codes and i checked for them and nothing at all it gave me code 55(nothing wrong), so i figured if i let the car die i might get codes, i started it and it ran fine like always except it didnt die! it justgot hot, thermometer was at about 80% so now im hella lost, i was thinking it might be the crank sensor, but now idk whats going on, i know i need a head gasket but idk how the problem fixed itself, it might be because i didnt drive it so im gonna try again tomorrow and we'll see what happens

dude this is crazy, my 87 200sx (s12) does the exact same thing! it ran fine for weeks then all of a sudden when the car was idling it just died randomly tried to start the engine and it wouldnt, did this twice and than left it there over night and started right back up again.... im changin out the fuel filter to see if its the reason.

yeah i finally figured out how to get the codes, heres my story from yesterday...

i go to my car and get codes. i get a 55 which is pretty much everything is fine, so i figure "maybe i have to let it die so the problem is showing." i start it up, AND IT DOESNT DIE! wtf so i shut it off after 20 minutes, and take off in my girlfriends car for a while, i come back and my 240 starts right up again! so i drive it around the block, already warmed up, come home and leave it running outside for about 15-20 minutes, get outside and its fine, so i drive it a little farther come home and park it, walk around for like 10 minutes confused, then i take it about 12 miles out and it makes it fine. get there, hang out for a few hours, get ready to take off AND IT WONT START!!!!!!!!! WTF!!!!, as i was sitting waiting to get picked up i checked for codes again and i get an 11 which is crankshaft position sensor. thats what im doing today

get yourself a new crankshaft position sensor sure not cost to much

no, what proves those things is that i had $500 to fix this car but since i couldnt figure out what was wrong with it, the money just sat there and i slowly spent it on food and random shit. now that i know whats wrong with it i only have about $5 to my name

Replaced the distributor and solved the problem! You should try it. I placed a WTB on the classifieds and had a lot of help in finding one for cheep as they are 300 rebuilt. Good luck and hope this helps!

CHeck you ECCS Relay wire, there are two eccs power wires a big one and a tiny one.

The tiny one keeps the car running. If this is snagged or not hooked up which is common some SRs this will occur.

It's a small Red wire with black stripe int he battery area.

Also check your spark plugs for evidence of fowling, plugs will tell you a lot on issues like this unless the fix is not obvious like a TORN intake pipe elbow right before the throttle body.

Try holding the TP open and see if it stays running or if it still dies. If it still dies than chances are it's a more complex electronic issue of some kind

i guess its the cam sensor, but its built into the dizzy, theres no (easy)way to get the sensor without the whole distributor, i tried at the junk yard and ended up ruining the sensor, and my only chance of getting the dizzy for cheap, so i bought a used one for $100 at some used parts placed owned by a (hella)russian guy with a bunch of mexicans working for him. you can get one on here for less than $50 though, i posted a wtb ad for one on here so just search for it and get a hold of those guys

just for kicks check your injector seals, my car would start, run fine but if i shut it off it wouldn't start again for hrs, unless i unplugged all 4 injectors and started it until it died :/ just a thought. your problem still sounds like a sensor but hey, worth a shot

we both got it solved and it was the distributor and nothing else. I hope this helps anyone in the future

yeah i spent a good $150 before i got the dizzy, so $250, because i didnt check codes
