Sorry to bring up a topic that I am sure has been hashed and rehashed.. BUT.. In the next year or so, I am going to either:

Install SR20DET
Install CA18DET
Install KA24DET

I wanna know what you guys reccomend and why, as well as if anyone knows a good shop in the Tampa area who can do this, OR better yet, if you are in the Tampa area and can HELP me do it... I am good with mechanical stuff but have no where near the skills required for such a task...

As much as i like the CA18, i'd probably go for the sr20 because of the parts availible.  But its up to you.  i wouldn't do a Ka24 because of the weaker internals.
it doesn't matter.

What kind of car do u have S13 or S14. I will be coming home on leave in Dunedin this summer I can lend a hand if you are gonna do it yourself. I know there are shops in tampa that can do a swap but I'm not sure of names. Go ask a shop I used to Blvd. Customs in St. Pete it's on the road that the Gandy Bridge turns into in St. Pete (i can't remember the name) Give them a call and ask them for a recommendation or try Brandon Motorsports (I think thats there name) give them a call and ask if they can or know of a shop that can do swaps. There is also a car dealership called Z-Fever if u ask nicely mybe they can tell u a place. In other words call them and see what they recommend.

I've got an S13 (1992)

Oh yeah this reminds me, if I DO do an engine swap, will I be able to keep my HICAS?  I know there is a seperate HICAS computer, but I know that it needs vehicle speed input from the ECU or something.. Anyone know?

Get rid of the HICAS it's alot of added weight. The hicas also runs off a pulley in the engine so transfering it, if u get a swap, might not be possible.

I know that it's a lot of added weight, but I actually really like the way that it makes my car handle, unlike a lot of peolple apparently...  But I would have to assume that the HICAS option was availible in Japan and not just the US.... In that case wouldn't it be applicable? I always assumed that the HICAS ran offa the regular power steering pump...

If it can be at all avoided I'd like to not lose the Hicas... Especially since there are so few 240's equipped with it..  Thanks a lot for the info you've given me so far, btw!

HICAS runs off a different type of power steering pump, you would need to get a engine that came from a HICAS equip. car, which might narrow your choices. Or you could maybe fabricate the old steering pump on there. Just seems like a hassle for HICAS.

HICAS only becomes a problem under high horsepower situations.  Because it encourages you rear to swing out in the start of a corner, if you run more then 250 hp, you might have problems with washing out your rear end.  It will definiately act differently when you run a more powerful engine.

Buy if you can't find an sr with hicas, talk to west.  He's running KA turbo with 300hp +.

I'd say reinforce the internals for the ka24 and then get a turbo for it... bigger engine hehehe
