Daily driven, which means winter too, winter here in St Louis isnt too bad, but i need something that wont rust out in a year. It's a toss up between hot shot and greddy. I'm sure more people on the forum have more info on them. Stay away from PaceSetter they just plain stink.

well then it's greddy. their's doesn't eliminate the cat, and it's full stainless steel. hotshot has proven power gains but it replaces the cat (where most power came from) and it has rust problems.

hot shot replaces the cat? mine doesn't, 92. also, why is pacesetter bad??? I have 2 hotshot headers, and I'm trying to sell one of them, and this guy was interested, and then calls me later and says his friends said that pacesetter is the way to go....I was like WTF? first I've heard. So, I've been trying to find people with experiences with pacesetter, and so far, I haven't found much. I haven't had any problems with my Hotshot headers, that wasn't caused by the installer....from now on, I do all my own stuff....or pay the money to have my mechanic do it.
anyways, I'm on a tangent...what's wrong with pacesetter?

Hey, what are you selling your headers for?

What's wrong with Pacesetter? I think that question is answered by the fact that I've never heard any serious enthusiast use that stuff on any type of car, ever! I wouldn't use anything that I hadn't heard about from someone I trusted.
As for the others: 1) I've heard good about Hotshot covering the last few years; 2) I've heard bad and good about Greddy (structural problems vs. good performance); 3) I thought the Greddy unit was only for the KA24DE?; 4) as for rust, get it coated from someplace like Jet Hot.
Just $0.02 from a guy who will not be buying a header.

GReddy doesn't make headers for '91-'94 KA24DE

Hmm, the only bad thing I've heard about the Hotshot headers is the fact that they replace the cat. The rust thing isn't an issue because it can be coated, and now i'm hearing that some hotshot's don't get rid of the cat. Maybe hotshots are the way to go.
Also, i've heard that they're putting out a 3rd gen hotshot header, so I personally am waiting for that before I decide what to get.

I found hotshot headers on Rollhard Performance for $319. Worth it?? i still need to know whether or not they eliminate the cat or not?? i know all the smog fittings are still the same. Any of you guys know if they take out the cat??
240sxtreme --- you still have one of yours for sale?? how much, what kind of shape is it in?

they were used for 3 months, I'm trying to sell them for around 250...but for you guys(or girls)...let me know how much....I really want to get rid of them...but I really want to get some money for them (so please don't say 100 bucks!)...since lowest I've seen is rollhard. also, if you're in the portland area ....I'd be happy to install or help install for free.....I've taken mine in and out of my car like 10-15 times...I have it down to an art. 91-94 DOHC....also, if any of you want them and aren't around, I still have the box, I'd be happy to ship for free.

240sxtreme=---- are the headers youve got only for the DOHC ?? you have the SOHC header??

no, I have 2 DOHC headers. there's nothing wrong with them....it's just a long story about a screwed up installer....took me 3 months, 1 new header, and 1 new O2 sensor to figure out what he did wrong.....ok dangit!...I'm gonna have to give you guys the whole story now....:)
I bought headers, went to a shop, asked them to install...OK.....install went less then smooth....the O2 sensor(18mm) on the original headers was inside an insert which increased the thread to 24mm. My AIV pipe(24mm) was rusted into the original headers, had to order new one. the Hotshot headers have 3 holes....
O2 sensor-18mm, AIV-24mm, EGR-24mm.
He put the O2 sensor w/insert(24mm) into the AIV hole, hooked up the EGR pipe(24mm), and I had an extra hole which we thought would be my AIV....got the new AIV pipe...wrong, it's 24mm. called hotshot, told them they have the wrong thread on the AIV hole...we went back and forth for weeks....they said, okay, we'll make new ones, but you pay upfront, and when we get old headers, we pay back. bought new ones. received new ones........nothing changed. called them again, they said, we're 100% positive they're correct, we tried them before we sent them....I'm like WTF!!!!
as an Act of God, I thought it might be time to buy a new O2 sensor, as mine had 140k miles. GUESS WHAT! New O2 sensor is 18mm!!! WHOA.
put the O2 sensor in the 18mm, AIV fit in the other 24mm....
The new headers are polished, and powdercoated, and stamped with Hotshot's insignia...show quality stuff. The old ones are the "usual" stuff normal people get...I wanted to keep the new ones, cause they look badass! But I didn't want them to refund me on the used ones....since it really wasn't their fault, and for the last 3 months, I've been telling them that they're idiots. So, I decided to keep both and sell my old ones.
whew! I'm breaking out in a sweat now!

so do you think ill have the same kind of problems getting headers put on my s13?? or only if the mechanics incompitant??
240sxtreme
10-08-2001, 04:53 PM
no, it was strictly a problem with the installer and that O2 sensor.....plus, if your O2 sensor doesn come in an insert....just take it out. But, so far, I'm the only person I've heard of who had an insert... which I don't understand. If you're in the portland area(or within driving distance) I'd be more then happy to help, and I've pretty much gone through everything...as long as you have a 91-94 DOHC....in a s13. and if it really doesn't work...I'd give money back.

If i bought some headers and i wanted to turbo my car later would i need to change my headers?
240sxtreme
10-08-2001, 07:42 PM
yes. If you look at headers made for a turbo, and NA headers, you'd instantly know the difference.

i have the hotshot header and the only problem i had was puttin them on...i didn't take off the steering rod..my header hit it everytime i tried to get the flanges over the studs. so i had to take out the studs and then put them in after i lined up the o2 sensor and the holes. other than that i like them had them for about a year and a half.. no problems

yeah, I figured out how to put them in, with the extension already on and everything....there a little "pocket" by the lower rear-right side of the engine, between the block and the firewall...if you angle it just right, you can enter the extension, then angle and twist the headers until you get through...but I agree. the first couple of times, it was a pain...till a friend of mine figured this out.
