View Full Version : thread lock on tie rod , turned to a solid , and didnt go through thread??

have you seen this happen before ? a guy at autozone said hes seen it but didnt know what caused it , ive already replaced them but trying to figure out what happen

idk thats what im thinking or it dried up before i put it on or something ,

steering angle spacers on stock tie rods is risky business; inspect those often... Plus I don't think the FSM recommends thread locker on that part; hence the reason for the lock plates...

What ever you do, do a good job; if that comes apart, you're going off the road!

we usually ditch locking plates when installing tie rods if they don't come with
that's way way too much tread lock, you only need a drop or two
and install right away
have done this on a few cars over the years
never had a problem with any of them yet

^ good for you. I know of one ca,r without the locking plates, that has had them back out. I can go take pictures of the body damage he got after he shot of the road if you would like...

Just think about this... if the disconnect, whether you think they will or not, you will almost certainly wreck your car... I wish you the best:goyou:

I don't put them in either. Proper installation and torque on the tie rod makes it nearly impossible for it to thread out unless the rod is binding up.
As for the OP- WAY too much loctite. Two drops, done. Not the whole tube.
