So then.. I come home with a ref ticket. :D

Amazing how cops around here are being fucken dicks.

Just venting, Not complaining or bitching, Retarded fucktard cops taking advantage.

Ok.. well we were hungry, so we decide to get some wendys.

My brother is in his s14.

I'm following in my s14.

we pull into the parking lot, bad luck i guess? cop was on the left of me about to to exit the parking lot onto the road. He decides to follow me.

I park my car next to my brothers s14. Cars still on.

The bitch gets out of her car with her parthner.

Comes up to my window and said my music is too loud, and that i have a modified exhaust. I explain to her, but their retards.

cop: your music is too loud and you have a modified exhaust
me: i didn't realize my music was that loud. [verified with my brother after they gave me a hard time, he said he didn't hear shit..]

cop: thats not an excuse, i can get you for a lot more things. you have a modified exhaust
me: i already have an exhaust ticket and im in progress of fixing it, i work 6 days out of the week and i don't have time. i bought a stock downpipe/exhaust already.

cop: well i can get you for a lot of more things exhaust is just one.
me: i don't have anything else in my car, everything is stock. i even offered to pop my hood, i didn't give a fuck.. i was stock. so i poped.

cop: whats this ?
me: it's my intake, it has a C.A.R.B STICKER.
cop: its not factory, you cannot have it.
me: it's 50 state legal with the c.a.r.b sticket.
cop: do you have paper work?
me: i didn't know i needed paper work for it, how do you register a c.a.r.b legal intake?

cop: well i'm going to have to give you a ref ticket.
me: i become speechless..
cop: license registration insurance.
me: i give it to them and they tell me to sit in my vehicle. so i sit in there.

they come up to me and give me the ticket and im pissed off my mind i didn't say anything to them. they gave me the ticket and i threw it. got out slammed my hood. and told them thanks for making my life worst, you could of gotten anyone else, speeding, or doing worst things, but you decide to get me when im just trying to get some food.

cop: get in your vehicle and leave.
me: jump in my vehicle drove to my friends tell them the story. they think its bull shit. LOL.

ahaha fucken bastards.. what dicks. watch out if your from oxnard,ca.
cops are being assholes. even to stock fucking cars!

HARASSED FOR NO REASON. THANKS!

switching exhaust to stock, going to ref, get that shit done with, extend ticket, fight it in court. what a waste of time ...

END.

since you dont have any real mods to your car just wrench the little bit you do have back to stock. at least your not having to pull out an entire RB like a friend of mine had to.

^ damn that sucks..

yeah basically just exhaust.. and the intake is all i have. LOL.

wow i forgot to addd.

they asked me what kind of gauge is that ?! i said its a volt meter, to see the volts from my battery. they said what? what is it? lol their AIR HEADS.

they also questioned me about my "AIR FRESHNER" i got the jdm one the squash scent air freshner. lol.. they asked me to open it..

idiots..

lol, should've said what I've said to cops in situations like that. When they hand you the ticket, tell them you're not going to sign it, then argue until they get sick of you and send you on your way.

I completely understand how you feel, but it seems like part of why you got the ticket may have been your attitude.
Even if they're dicks, you have to show respect to cops.
Slamming your hood probably wasn't necessary

lol, should've said what I've said to cops in situations like that. When they hand you the ticket, tell them you're not going to sign it, then argue until they get sick of you and send you on your way.
They can take you straight to jail for that.

It probably won't work for most of the people around here, but it works great for me.

what you guys all have to remember is to play it cool the last week out of the month. if you notice the first 2 weeks of the month will be copless. then the last week you will see a shit load of them because they are out hustling to get their quotas met. both times i have recieved tickets have been in that last week mark. so do what you want the first two and drive like a grandma the last week.

rookie cop most likely. your attitude didn't help much either it seems.

though if you're really in the mood to throw a fit over it why not just head down to the station and write a report on them. might even get the ticket cleared up as well. bring the exhaust ticket that you received already as well to further help you.

the guys at the desk are a hell of a lot more understanding than a rookie cop out to bust someones balls.

jinn are u serious wow... that sux. you shld have just turned your car off and walked away if they didnt pull you over with lights or anything. therefore they have no right to walk up to you and hassle you! and any time a cop is being un-fair you can ask for there Sargent to be present and most likely they will let you go if they are in the wrong because everytime there sargent is called out its like a write up on them and stops them from ranking up...

i have a intake on mine but i cut out the stock airbox and bolted it up but under it i still have my intake so if they pop my hood they just see plastics and everything black and stock looking...

HAHAHAHAH oh wowwww i almost died reading that line. you guys out west sure have it pretty bad...for the intake, do you to get a letter from the manufacturer (injen aem etc) stating that it is indeed legal or something? i dunno, i don't have an aftermarket intake so i'm not sure.

That's a pretty crappy situation to get sent to a state referee for.

I wouldn't go so far as to say that your car is stock though...

You have a modifed exhaust and a modified intake.

u know what i have to agree to an extent. for KA's these gains are minimal.
especially intakes....in some stock cars i felt a huge improvement, but in 240sx's i dont see much at all if any.
now 3' exhaust really lets the KA breathe.
but in the end,if u want to run it knowing its illegal prepare for consequences.

If I were you I'd go to the police station and ask about how you can do a formal complaint. And also when you go to court say not guilty and that you would like to go to court for it.

Start doing your homework now and act smart. You have your brother as a witness. Keep your cool, dress up and sound educated, don't try to be a thug.

Obviously, its not illegal to have a modified exhaust. If that was the case TRD/Brabus/AMG/NISMO etc wouldn't sell aftermarket exhaust.

If your exhaust is lower than 95 db + or - 1.5 db then you can also use that in court. Officer obviously has a poor judgment and she/he should receive more/better training.

Its funny you think since its up to officer's judgment and if they are clearly wrong they should lose their ability to use their judgement right... haha

Anyways, State Ref's have nothing to do with officers so don't blow your steam off on them. If anything they can be a tool for you to win decisively.

forgot to add this, the douche bag also said

cop: YOU HAVE AN AFTERMARKET HEAD.
me: you mean my valve cover? i just sprayed it a different color. what a complete tard. lololol. :fruit:

already got a mind set. get a 510, swap my built ka into there, slap a huge ass turbo on my KA. and laugh at every cop in the world. while hearing that turbo spool ehehe.

i slammed hood after everything was done because it was unnecessary of a ref ticket they were giving me a hard time when i was being reasonable with them explaining im just wanting to get some damn food. my additude was chill, i just wanted them to leave me alone, i didn't give them a hardtime, but everytime i spoke, they cut me off, saying its an excuse, blahblahblah. harassing me about everything. i'm already going through hard times with life, they just happened to make it worst, so i explained everything to them and they said it was excuses. they said i had excuses for everything. lol!

i didn't buy an intake to gain whatever hp, i just used whatever was around.

thats why im going back to stock. i never had a stock air box on my car, and the intake isn't even mine, my friend basically is letting me borrow it for a long time because since we finished building my motor it was the only intake laying around, since it was c.a.r.b. i thought it was fine.

exhaust, i learned already that it was too loud, due to so much work and so many other things i don't even have time to work on my car, i got a stock downpipe and exhaust just waiting to be put on lol.

i got an exhaust ticket in idle like 2 months ago.. it's on an extension right now. i already knew, i explained to them i already have a fix it for my exhaust, but they kept being bitches.. so i picked up a stock downpipe, exhaust.

a lot of cops are really just trying to make their quotas at the end of the month, i realized that too. all them pigs everywhere lol.

i'm not gonna pass the db, its pretty loud. i am gonna get it back to stock, i am going to fight it, cuz its bs ..

honestly! if i was a freaking rice burner revving in the parking lot and had neon glows n shit with fat torbo. i'd be okay with getting a ref cause i'd know i was guilty, in this case i didnt do shit, so it's kinda funny.

"one of my friends asked an officer if it was okay to flip off a cop, he said yeah well we can't stop you, but see your friend over there, she would get pulled over for tinted windows."

therefore; when im back to stock, im flipping them off everytime i see them, its not hard to miss two douche bags i'll always remember their faces and i hope they get theirs one day.

i'm actually a really nice guy, i don't act thug or anything, i dress appropriate when i go to court, i know when to curse and when not to curse. so i think things should be fine, they just knocked me off balance when i first received it, super shocked. mind is straight now.

just sharing what happened, cause all my friends thought it was BS! lol.
i'm not complaining, i don't really care, their just another asshole unfair cops. most cops are dicks, i've only met one nice cop.

off to work, like every other day lol.
it was nice reading peoples inputs. i heard ref tickets are pretty pricey eek.

yeah, it doesnt fly under the radar but its not as loud as my old Mazdaspeed(stock at least)

here is the AEM intake

make your own top to the box (so it doesnt say AEM) and you would never get messed with.

You have multiple tickets for the same problems now. When will you learn? You know what the police can and will do? Fuck you. They have the power to do whatever they want.

I still agree that it sucks pretty bad what happened, but, you seemed to be asking for problems (if you really think about it)

Ya the Evo is pretty quick out of the box, but big gains can be had with simple bolt-ons. The Evo is soo quiet stock though, I can't hear it haha. There are a crapload of "stealth" parts out for the Evos now though =).

I think 240s can start going the stealth route too with the Apexi Noir exhaust, anodizing / painting FMIC's and pipes, etc.

I'm gonna go back to stock air box.

I got my second ref ticket for my air filter

not even a full intake

the cop also argued with me for fifteen minuts that my ignition coil was after market. I was forced to give him a lesson which pissed him off more and led him into writing me up for moddified emissions for the ref. loud exhaust. and body panels being below the rim. I mean my cars on 18's so they aren't but then again my car is slammed. and like stated. you gotta pay to play the game. I'm going back to stock airbox to keep me out of trouble. or at least with the reff. sorry to steal your thread man but I just wanted to share my experiance. also. is it true if you get your third ticket you can't register your car anymore unless corrected??

Damn. If your intake is CARB legal, then guess what, it's LEGAL. If you had paperwork, it would've been icing on the cake. You totally didn't have to sign that ticket. Think they're going to go through the trouble to drag your ass to jail over an intake? Not to mention, the intake is LEGAL! Do me a favor, arb.ca.gov, and go to aftermarket database and print out the intake exemption paperwork, so you can tell the next pig who gives you shit to fucking stuff it.

Damn... you should've stirred up some shit over that. You spent the extra time and money to stay legal, but some POS cop wants to hassle you over a profile? Cops don't know the laws they're supposed to enforce, so they bullshit a lot of youngins, and you guys fall for it.

Is your exhaust even proven to be legal? Have it tested before reverting to stock. It may be loud, but if it's under the 95db requirement, then your exhaust is LEGAL also. Apexi even issued a bulletin to the CHP to inform them about the exhaust laws since a LOT of people were getting shitted on, yet had a legal catback.

STOP taking all this shit from cops. The majority of these rejects don't know shit... but boy are you in a world of hurt if you come across the ones that do LOL!

Keeping your cars stock is weak. You're letting these nazis win. Use the system against them, so you can have fun and not have to worry.

I'll agree though, courtesy goes a long way. Never antagonize a cop, unless you are 200% in the right. If you were aware of the intake being legal and the laws, you could have refused that ticket. Stating that you were ticketed for the exhaust, but continued to drive around with it anyway wasn't exactly the brightest thing either.

Anyway, fight the ticket, get your money back, and file a formal complaint against that officer for harassment.

lol i would of asked to speak to her C.O immediatly if she didn't understand what C.A.R.B. means. and its not illegal to have a modified exhaust as long as it was not modified for sound and is cat/back only.

jinesz32
06-24-2009, 01:49 AM
haven't had time to pull the exhaust off, i always thought when they give you a fix it ticket their suppose to give you time to "fix it" i've been followed by a few cops here and they tail me, then run my plates and see that i have the damn ticket already and just back off. i was going to do it whenever i had the spare time, i don't live in a house so it's kinda hard to do, i have to depend on my friend to work at his shop and hes been going through some rough times so he hasn't been around.

my post isn't typical bad additude i'm just stating what happened :), multiple tickets? i have one fix it ticket, then this ref. i was warned, and instead of assumptions, you should get facts. if i haven't learned my lesson. i'd be like FUCK THE POLICE, I'm keeping this shit on even though its LOUD AS FUCK!, i went out of my way to get stock shits for my car so i could fix the issue, because I LEARNED ALREADY. tyvm.

i seem to be asking for problems? i wasn't racing, i wasn't drunk, i wasn't revving, i wasn't on drugs, and i wasn't driving like a dick to attract attention, or doing anything uneccesary all i was just trying to do was get some food, and i get hassle'd for NOTHING. i was literally PARKED LOL. they didn't put the lights or anything, they walked up to my car and gave me a tough time, i kept my cool until they gave me the ref ticket.

i always wanted a 510 before any of this came along, i didn't want to get hassle'd for being ka-t =X so i set my plans aside till i can get a 510, so i enjoy driving it around with no worries. i respect cops, and i know some keyword:some are doing their jobs, some just take advantage, and in this case, they were taking advantage of their power.

it's true, you gotta pay to play the game, i already did pay, for a stock exhaust .. and the fee for the fix it when that comes around the corner. and i was in progress of swapping exhaust whenever i could find time, i even had it up on zilvia for the longest trying to get rid of it LOL.

they had me there for pretty long, more than 15 minutes probably, it was about 11pm at night, the retard wrote down 12:15pm, lol ?! there were a lot of racers there, they probably started a meet there or something it was maybe one block from where i parked.

yeah i'm gonna print out all that crap, have all my papers and learn my rights so this bull doesn't happen again. im almost certain i won't pass the db LOL, it's pretty loud? i'm not sure though.

fighting the ticket, getting money back, moving on to big and better things, karma will hit them one day.

i'm already getting over the ticket, it's like taking candy from a baby. just knowing my car is so close to stock. it's going to be simple.

sorry for everyone else that got owned, good luck with the reff. a few of my friends got owned here as well, about 4 of them by the same cop.

anyways.
have a wonderful day/night everyone!

Vehicle Code Pub... If it's not there you can't get a ticket for it, unless you let them do it! I've always been on their good side... just be respectful and don't act a fool... but a dick will always be a dick.

Heck a sheriff followed me for 10 miles for going 90 he told I was going 85 and to go 75 and CHP can't tell and sent me on my way... I always go 75 now LOL... and it works!

about 2 months ago, and it's still on extension for another month.

until august 22. and getting that first exhaust was bullshit too. i saw the cop from far away, i put it in nuetral and let it roll pass him :D i was at idle already, pulls out and puts the lights on, lol.

i could put up a fight with an officer. and i would win and make them look like a fucking retard. if i really wanted to, i could get a silencer for the exhaust and go to ref and get the damn stamp that i passed the db and i won't get hassle'd about my exhaust anymore. i'll print all this bullshit, and print out that my carb legal intake is legal. since OBVIOUSLY these rookie cops don't know jack shit. even a civilian knows more shit then they ever will. they hassle'd me for a fucking air freshner. ROFL ? make me laugh more. they should get smacked a billion times or get kicked off the squad for being so stupid.

please do some research and get some facts, PLEASE.

cop: looks even more stupid, just trying to find anything.

Good luck with winning all your stuff.

Silencer might not work dude. Depends on the ref. Supposedly, that shit needs to be welded on now, or else it doesn't count... LOL! Don't quote me on that though, haven't actually seen the legislation for that.

Brian, you give cops too much credit. Unless they're CHP/street racing unit, they probably don't know shit about these laws, as evidenced by the cop that pulled the OP over. Reminds me of the dude with a stock STI that got a ticket for the STOCK WING!

I think until you have been a cop, you should shut your mouth about trash talking them. I firmly believe it's the most difficult job out there. You risk being killed every single day. A lot of people hate you just because of your job, and you just do not get the credit you deserve.

Does it suck real bad to get busted when all you did was go get some food? Hell yes. I would be upset too. BUT...... BUT, the thing is this.

Modify your car and you are just asking to get busted. Act like a tough guy with them and you are now BEGGING to get busted.

It isn't FAIR, but too bad. If you want to drive in california, deal with the consequences.
We have fucked up air, fucked up budget, fucked up people. Modify your car. GO for it. Might as well just write a check to california as soon as you bolt on your exhaust.

I drive a stock J30 everyday. Do I ever get busted for stupid shit like this? Hell no.

Would you go into a lion's cage with some meat strapped to your chest? I hope not.
So, why the hell drive in CA with stupid ass "illegal" modifications to your car?

I don't feel anything for a cop... I can't live with them I can't live without them... risk of getting killed... I've been to places you have never seen/heard of before and most cops too.

Tell me how you would like to be in a place where people blow themselves up as a religion...

Cops go their warm fuzzy home and family every night... I don't get to see home for sometimes over a year...

You have to give respect to be respected and when you harass the innocent because of your authority of power you just broke all that is right and failed to the people you sworn to protect...

A cop is human... some people forget that... whatever everyone has their opinions and that's what I fight for so you can say whatever you want without a cop locking you up for 20 years, just look at communist countries...

I totally am for modified cars... if the vehicle code says it's okay it's okay! You have to violate them to receive a ticket and if it clearly states you're in the green then what the fuck?

I'd exercise my Miranda rights... fuck em. Have with your opinions... I don't care.

^ Nice.

Fact is, it's much easier to write speeding/parking tickets, than to actually go put yourself in harms way... and with so many people not knowing their rights, that just means tons of easy $ for the state and to cover their paycheck.

Why should someone who went out of their way to spend the extra money on a LEGAL mod get hassled? Because he fit a profile? Because the cop wants to power trip? Fuck that. We live under stringent laws already, so it's a slap in the face to get hassled after the fact.

FYI, I appreciate the cops in my neighborhood. I've never been given any hassle over stupid shit, and I see them actually doing PATROLS, and not wasting their time with petty shit like shiny exhausts.

Yeah, you can argue that breaking the law is breaking the law, but then again, it's their discretion. I know someone who got ticketed for j-walking. Dunno how lower it can get than that.

BTW, OP: Was it CHP or local pd who gave you the ticket?

what you guys all have to remember is to play it cool the last week out of the month. if you notice the first 2 weeks of the month will be copless. then the last week you will see a shit load of them because they are out hustling to get their quotas met. both times i have recieved tickets have been in that last week mark. so do what you want the first two and drive like a grandma the last week.

deng!! when ever i visit oxnard i hardly see any cops lol

did you get their badge numbers?> thats the first thing i would do when they start mouthing off to me, i remain quiet and ask for their badge number, and some times they don't want to give it to you, you just take down the number of the vehicle that they are driving, mark the date and time on a piece of paper that the incident occured, and go to your local police station and file an incident report for harassment. and be sure to be clear how un reasonable and not cooporative the officers were, make sure to inclued that they addressed you by some sorrt of rude racial slur, at one point, and would not give you their badge #.

file it, also you can aplly for a TRO while you are there.

but come to realize, we are the ones that are setting ourselves up for failure!!! and the cops are the sharks that feed on our stupidity! SO, with that being said, if u have a DD u might want to keep it stock, i mean its not like u gonna go racing on the streets anyways. just restore the car and body kit it and lower it a bit but stay street legal. BUT if u have too much money to spend or u just a gangsta that doesnt give a fuck and drifts around streets corners with the windows down and yelling 187 on the mother fucking cop!!! with ur muffler noise setting of car alarms and skinning cats live, then go head and do so, but be prepared to PAY some fines for that fun.

Or is it more now?

Anyone knkow the V.C. and what the penalties are? Link me. =-)

And would it matter if the Exhaust exceeds 95dbs or not, or they don't even care because it's modified"?

I really dont understand this. My friend got a ref ticket for not having a carb sticker on his intake, so if he had one he would of still got one? And how is it fair when the harleys blow by you with their 500 decibel exhausts and they never get messed with? I think harleys are a real thread to the road because when i drive and one of those fucks blows by me i get startled and i can jerk the wheel and cause an accident, but no, they even go after import bikes too.

Who are we really hurting with our mild exhausts or intake? its not like i have to smuggle those things from Columbia, i can walk into any autozone and purchase one. It doesnt produce more emmisions or anything dangerous, I hate the way this shit is turning out to be. It wasnt this bad before, now people are getting ref tickets for the stupidest shit ever. If California wasnt in the shit so much, maybe it would be this bad.

I just paid one like 2 months ago, all fix-it tickets are still $25. Through recent encounters with the police. They have all stated to me that "It does not matter if the exhaust is below 95 dbA. It is based on our professional judgement if it is "too loud"."

seems a bit unfair, but a law is a law i guess.

Couldn't you just have it tested at a CHP station and have written proof that it indeed does not go over 95 dbA? This is of course if the exhaust in question is suppose to meet California legal sound level.

This is correct, doesn't matter if it even meets the DB limits, it's a reason for them to give you a ticket.

Pro tip: Before you even get an exhaust ticket, go to a state referee and ask them to do a dB test on your car. They'll test it and take pictures of the muffler, and if you pass, they'll print out a sheet that has a picture of your muffler and the test results on it.
Keep these papers in your glove box, and when you get pulled over for modified exhaust, show the paperwork to the cop and you'll be on your merry way with the quickness.

IIRC, the test is only 5 or 10 bucks.

Indeed, I know they just find a reason to pull you over and even if it's not that loud, they will use that as a premise to search and survey your vehicle to find other faults.

GOod idea, Is the CA Ref the same as the B.A.R?

Amen, they sell aftermarket performance items everywhere and it's illegal to install them on your car. It's a joke that they say "Off-road" use. WHO THE ef ever goes Off-Road in L.A.?

Is the sidewalk considered off road? Then heck, I'll just drive on the sidewalk then!

I just believe that Imports have just been branded the "STEREOTYPE" by now. There's no way to change it. You can't change the "STEREOTYPES" about race so there's no way that you could with Cars.

That's just what I think.

Just imagine Driving a Hyundai or Ford Escort, you'd probably will never get pulled over because the cops would just feel bad for ya.

The law USED to be that the officers had to prove that the exhaust exceeded the dB limit, but around 3 to 4 years ago, they changed the law to leave it up to the officers "good judgement", which is absolute horseshit, since their judgement sucks most of the time.

Good idea, Is the CA Ref the same as the B.A.R?

Kinda.
B.A.R. = Bureau of Automotive Repair. Its an organization. They do lots of different things. The state refs are part of the B.A.R. .

lol. "Off-road" = non-street, aka OFF-ROAD, tracks, trails, boats, etc. They're parts made for cars that are not registered for street use.

^^ Yeah, I saved the REF's number and probably call them Monday.

I bought a New Apexi catback and just kinda sketchy about installing it. I don't want to install it and ride for 2 days and get a ticket. The best way would be to get a paper that certifies that the exhaust is approved.

^I'm not positive that they'll set up an appointment over the phone if you haven't already gotten a ticket. You might end up just having to find a local ref station and simply show up and ask them to test up.

Not sure though. Don't quote me on that. lol

I think I could probably go to the B.A.R. because they have answered a lot of questions about engine swaps for me in the past. I will call the BAR and see if they have such a service to give me a "permit" or "note" stating that the exhaust conforms to sound standards.

I know that when the BAR 'Bars" are a car with a legal engine swap, the will also add notes such as:

Exempt Note: Modified intake

Or something like that...

OKAY!!! I FOUND IT!!!

California: You can only go to the REF if you got a citation!

1. Get a Citation
2. Go to BAR/REF to do the Decible test
3. If (pass) Under 95dbs, you get a certificate
4. If (fail) Over 95dbs, you must repair or basically get a stock exhaust
*If pass, present Certificate to Court ~ You're clear~ just pay court fees
*If fail, you must return exhaust to OEM status + re-do the DBs test, once pass go to court pay court fees.

WOW. I wish you could just get it REF/BAR'd prior to all this.~

Can we make a list of which exhaust system passes or does not pass the 95DBs test on S13 and S14?

With KAE, KADE stock, KAT, SR, RB, etc.

More info:

Exhaust Systems: Whistle-Tip Prohibition

27150.3. (a) A person may not modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle with a whistle-tip.
(b) A person may not operate a motor vehicle if that vehicle's exhaust system is modified in violation of subdivision (a).
(c) A person may not engage in the business of installing a whistle-tip onto a motor vehicle's exhaust system.
(d) For purposes of subdivisions (a) and (c), a "whistle-tip" is a device that is applied to, or is a modification of, a motor vehicle's exhaust pipe for the sole purpose of creating a high-pitched or shrieking noise when the motor vehicle is operated.

Added Sec. 1, Ch. 432, Stats. 2003. Effective January 1, 2004.

Man, this is just funny reading all the V.C.'s of California DMV.......damn.

wow.. lol
new trends come around, the law makes rules against em... think how different it would have been if tuning imports never became this popular.. could get away with more things *even tho aftermarket and parts wouldnt be soo big*.. like 10 years ago this wasnt a big deal. I know some here say "well you broke the law regardless, deal with it".. consider this stuff wouldnt be soo criminal years ago.

their doing a gay crackdown on racers thats why it's so crazy.. i've heard some crazy stories here.. theres a road here where people street race, i've never gone, one of my friends went there, and there were 15 cops+ he said, and had about 20 guys on their hoods getting owned. LOL.. wow..

update:

came back from a nice drive with my brothers & a friend. was dropping off friend to get his evo at another guys house, pulled on the driveway, cop flys by down the street, spot light and puts the lights on me, while im parking on the driveway. tells me im not suppose to be driving my car blahblahblah, i honestly didn't know, its my only car to get to work, so i'm gonna continue driving it, just take back roads and stay off the main street till i finish up the ref. he followed me, he pasted the light and went straight while i was making a left LOL. what a total douche. i wanted to laugh :D, so then i was driving home, hoping he was waiting for my at the end of the street so he could harass me, then i'd tell him, i'm driving home? I got a ref ticket on valetines day this year and i was pissed at first, btw my s13 has an rb25, he pulled me over for the turbo timer, its on the steering column. He popped my hood and cited me for intake exhaust and turbo timer (modified ignition/emissions on the ticket). I was dreading the day that i had to take it in but a few weeks later i receive a letter from the court it had a $550 fine on it. So i went to the courthouse and paid the ticket and that was that. We'll head over to the station and file a report on this fag. He's just hating now as it looks to me...

If you havent fixed your ref ticket, any cop that runs your plates is going to see that your car should not be on the street and they will pull you over and tow your car. I would stop driving it unless your on your way to the ref station, even then they technically can tow your car so be carefull.

eh its a stockish car now its not loud or anything, im basically off their radars, if i had the exhaust on there still id be scared =X. what confuses me is, what if you only have one DD, and you have to work to pay to fix the ref, how are you going to get to work if you can't drive. it doesn't make sense.

^^ Just remember guys,

Exhaust (cat back) has nothing to do with Emissions. So a stupid cop writes you a ticket for "emissions" for muffler or catback, you can still fight it. Since Emissions only deals with the CAT and O2 sensors and anything prior to the cat you're good. Exhaust = Sound decibles only.

I guess I wouldn't be suprised if I see the Ref after I install that catback.=?

I JUST CALLED THE REF:

Me: "Hi there, I have an aftermarket exhaust that I just bought and was thinking of installing it soon, is it possible for me to get a "certificate" or "permit" which says that the exhaust is sound legal and under the 95dbs requirement?"

Ref Lady: "Did you get a citation?"

Me: "No, I did not. I am trying not to get one and I would like to see if I could obtain a "certificate" of compliance with the Decible test so that if an officer pulls me over, I could avoid it."

Ref lady: "You cannot do the decible test at the referree unless you had a citation. You can go to muffler shops and they can do a Decible test."

Me: "Oh Okay, would you know if the certification from the muffler shop be legal or appropriate and the police will take it?"

Ref Lady: "He can still give you a ticket if he wants."

Me: "Oh, okay, well how much is the decible test at the referree"

Ref lady: "It's free if you got a citation."

Me: "Where can I find a location for the Ref?"

Ref lady: "It's all over california.

Me: "is there a website or how can I find them?"

Ref Lady: "We will appoint you a location when you get the citation."

Me: "Okay! THank you very much for your time."

u know, im really getting tired or these threads like this. no offense or anything but it seems like every week someone gets pulled over and gets ref ticket or whatever, they come here to zilvia.net and whine....and yes, i did that too. yea yea yea call me a hypocrite, blah blah blah whatevers!

but come to realize, we are the ones that are setting ourselves up for failure!!! and the cops are the sharks that feed on our stupidity! SO, with that being said, if u have a DD u might want to keep it stock, i mean its not like u gonna go racing on the streets anyways. just restore the car and body kit it and lower it a bit but stay street legal. BUT if u have too much money to spend or u just a gangsta that doesnt give a fuck and drifts around streets corners with the windows down and yelling 187 on the mother fucking cop!!! with ur muffler noise setting of car alarms and skinning cats live, then go head and do so, but be prepared to PAY some fines for that fun.

dont mean to piss anyone off......

Here is how LIFE WORKS guys and gals:

1. If you dress like a Gang Member, cops will think you're a gang member.
2. If you hang around with Gang Members, cops will think you're a gang member.

3. If you drive Japanese imports that look like the street racing cars of Fast and Furious, cops will think you're Fast and Furious.
4. If you have modified japanese car with loud exhaust, tinted windows, gauges, and STICKERS advertising Cusco, Falken, HKS, GREDDY, Garrett, etc, or any thing visually illegal, you're a street racer.

It is difficult for most cops to differentiate and they will not take chances. If they are not sure if you're a Ferocious Lion or a Cat from a distance, then will take precaution to make sure that you're not an illegal street racer or a Drifter. Can you blame cops for "your CHOICE" of the defiance of the written LAW and modification and implementation of illegal street use aftermarket parts?

Determining factors:

1. Carism- Imports
2. Racism
3. Ageism- Teens
4. Stupiditism-
5. Bucketism- Dirty poorly maintained cars

Having the "certificate" is useless cause a cop can still give you an exhaust ticket even though you cleared it. Happened to me while I already had one exhaust ticket which I reffed but didn't get to the court date yet and CHP pulled me over but gave me a fix it ticket anyways even though I cleared it with the ref. The only thing the ref system is good for, like she said is to clear an existing citation and thats it. Down the line you can still get an exhaust ticket and go through the process all over again. Wonderful flaw in the system. And if someone has any documentation that there is a way to not get an exhaust ticket once you clear it please feel free to link it.

depends on whats on the ticket, if it says its fixable (checked) then you just fix whatever was wrong and take it to a CHP office, they look at it and sign it off, pay court fees and done. If it is not checked off at fixable then you take it to the ref etc. But if you want more info you need to give exactly what code the citation was for, 27015.1 or whatever if my memory is still good on the exhaust code might be it

I'm going back to stock airbox to keep me out of trouble. or at least with the reff. sorry to steal your thread man but I just wanted to share my experiance. also. is it true if you get your third ticket you can't register your car anymore unless corrected??
so you can get a ticket in cali for your car being too low?

I got pulled over by CHP about a month ago for doing 75mph on the fwy(was running late) and my exhaust is just straight turbo back no res/no cat. The guy comes up to the car asking me for the usual paperwork and says:

CHP: I bet if I look under the hood, I'm going to find all kinds of illegal mods, right?

Me: I do have an intake/exhaust but everything else is factory. *he smiles and nods his head*

Then he goes back to the car to run my info after confirming that it is my vehicle he comes back and asks me to pop the hood. At this point I'm thinking I'm screwed once he sees the SR20 under there, so the hood gets popped he whips out his flashlight and I'm quiet as a church mouse:

CHP: I see you've got modified suspension *points to my shiny camber plates*. Also see the intake which I can give you a ref ticket for if I wanted to but I'm just going to give you a ticket on the speeding.

So he instructed me to come back with him to the patrol car to sign the ticket, and this is when I found out he must of been a sort of auto enthusiast himself because he started asking me if I do Auto-X or if I've been to the raceway.

We stood there for few minutes talking then he also told me to be careful out here because most stations are sending their officers down to get trained on illegal modifications(which I've known for years now) but I thought it was cool of him to warn me.

Anyway though, like most of you already know it's a gamble every time you pull your car out of the driveway -- sucks it has to be that way but we are breaking the law after all no matter how dumb it is sometimes and I'm at the point now that if I get pulled over and reffed I'm selling my car or make it track-only; it gets to expensive. It's really funny though because before I started modifying my 240 I had a 1995 Mustang GT swapped with a 351W -- Straight X-Pipe, spintech pro-comp mufflers, trickflow heads, intake, cam & on the juice(125hp wet shot) and NEVER got pulled over. :wtf: That's prejudice LOL!

jinesz32 (http://zilvia.net/f/members/jinesz32.html) hey where did you get pulled over at anyway? i know in oxnard you have to watch out for the 2 lady chp officers cuz theyre on a hunt. Oh and stay away from Rice blvd and pleasant valley rd. i know those two streets are hot, it sucks cuz i live around that street.

i didn't get pulled over i got harassed haha, i pulled into the wendys parking alot about to get out and get some food, and all of a sudden i see two officers at my door when im about to get out, and they start chewing me out lawl. didnt hit sirens or anything, my car was parked and off hahaha .. how lame lol.

i like shierfs more than chp, chps are dicks.. well some of them, and for the two girls around here their called the "dikes" LOL. my few of my friends owned them in court already,

some cops try to get you for anything especially now since our economy is so fucked up, their trying to rape everyones wallets for whatever they can get, before it wasn't as bad, now were having portable smog stations, even have chp roaming the town. LOL.. hilarous. damn douche bags.
