View Full Version : E Brake Problem??

Long story short, the metal rod on my ebrake that is attached to the ebrake button came out of my ebrake and I can't get the rod back on. I was just wondering if the stock e brake button just screws off, pulls off, or does it not come off at all?

OR, is there any possible way to take the ebrake cable (the one that adjusts the tightness of the ebrake) off without taking the whole rear brake line off and replacing it? Because there is a metal rod that will not allow the cable to get through the hole, because the metal rod is too big. I don't want to take off the rod and slide the cable out, because I'm afraid I won't be able to get the rod back on.

Thanks in advance for any help, I couldn't find much information about this, even in the FSMs.

EDIT: I guess if this is too confusing I will post pictures tomorrow.

If that rod came out, chances are you wont be able to get it back in. The black plastic piece does not come apart from the rod. And if you want to take the cable off the handle, you can drill the rivet out.

Pry apart the underside of the parking brake lever... wide enough to get the tapered part of the button in. Use vice grips, pliers or channel locks to squeeze the lever back together after the rod is positioned correctly. Reinstall parking brake boot! You only need to pry it open at the end, not the whole lever!
