The car runs alright and idles fine with decent power (probably a little less than it should be).

However, when I'm shifting from 4-5 or 3-4 the engine will backfire pretty consistently.

When it's decelerating from around 2-1k RPM, it gargles pretty rough and sounds like the timing is off or something, I'm not sure. Acceleration is pretty smooth at all RPMs.

Also, I'm only able to get around 220 miles per tank.

So it's running rich most likely right? How would I fix this?

'90 KA24e w/ ~220K miles, ~60k on the rebuild. all stock with 3" ReinHard exhaust (was planning on turboing in the future).

No ideas? Should I just do a tune-up..?

Set the timing to around 17, didn't change anything really.

Am I just retarded?

Leaky injectors or something, sounds like you're running rich.

mine did the same thing before it died. i had a bunch of crap in my fuel tank, and after having it boiled out at a radiator shop and putting in a 255lph pump it crapped out again due to the tank. . . im doing a 15gal fuel cell now.

anyways, mine has done this ever since i bought it. i did a tune up, checked timing, had no injector leaks. . . i dont know whats doing it either. i tried changing MAFs around, reset the computer, etc. im guessing when my 5.0L swap is finished it wont get any better gas mileage but it wont be slow anymore either.
