ok s15sr20

problem has been narrowed down to timing. i line CAS up w/ right side dot, and pully on 2nd notch from left. i've tried moving the CAS around and get some better responce. had the engine running for 5-10 seconds but soon as i pull ignition key back to ON it stalls out.

any suggestions on how to adjust the timing one way or the other?

any help is appreciated
thanx

i know on the s13 you line the knotch on the cas housing with the rite dot, closest to engine, then when you push it into the motor it will turn slightly and you make sure that its now lined up with the left dot. make sure your motor is at tdc on its compression stroke when you do this. if its at tdc on the wrong cylinders then the cas will be firing on the wrong 2 cylinder back and forth. so it end up being mechanically 180 degrees off

Have you tried using a Timing Light Gun? Borrow one rather than messing with the CAS. You should know how to set the timing eh?

1. hook up your timing light gun to the loop line on the SR coil harness and make sure you have it hooked up the right way. Warm the car up for like 5-10 min, shut it off unplug the tps, start her up again rev it 3-4 times and it should go into timing mode (if your using stock ECU, this does not apply when using PowerFC). Car should idle around 750-850rpm then point the timing light gun to the crank and adjust CAS until it reads 15deg, which is 2nd from the right. Turn off car, plug the TPS back and start her up again.

2. you might have to adjust the IAVC, idle control, turn clockwise to idle slower, turn counter-clockwise to increse idle. This is a pain in the Arse especially when you have cams installed.

3. If you can't find the loop line on the coil harness you can use a high tension spark plug wire which goes between the first coil and spark plug (first cylinder on engine, front), then clamp the timing light on to that spark plug wire and adjust timing. This is the method i use because i'm using a splitfires coils.

Anyways, hope this helps. :)

Are you using the dots on the cam gears?

You sure the physical timing of the engine is correct?

Set Crank at TDC
http://i73.photobucket.com/albums/i235/Neil_85/180SX/VFSH2099.jpg

you should have silver links that line up on the dots
(you will have to rotate the crank abit to get them to line up properly)

If not pay attention to the #1 Cylinder Cam lobes they will face outward

then check the CAS Line up marks should be on the left dot

mine looks exactly like that with lobe cylinder 1 to the intake side. and pull notch is the same second on left. cas is lined up the same as yours. however when i try setting up the chain as yours is.. left dot is always one link off no matter how many rotation the engine goes round

does anyone know what would happen if you were half a link out on the chain?

bend a valve? or run shit?

sounds like you skipped a link down by the crank. i hate to say it but you should start from the beginning and make sure all your marks are cherry p.s once youve lined it up once and tried to start it the chains no longer index the same. you need to start from scratch.
