Installation was pretty straight forward, granted I had a knack for crossthreading bolts this weekend. Cross threaded the coolant line into my block (yay!) and two of the three downpipe bolts (which is now leaking).

Couple points to consider when buying an HKS turbo.

The oil return flange into the turbo is the same size as a t28 NOT t25, apparently they are different. The flange for my t25 is too big. As of right now I have my t25 oil return line bolted on with one bolt instead of two. Unfortunatly it's already started to leak. I figure I'll give a couple different shops a call and see if I can find one from a t28.

Outlet pipes (to intercooler) and inlet (from mafs) are angled a little differently. This might cause problems if you have a one peice hot pipe but since I had the stock three peice one and I just manhandled everything to fit.

Now, for the review.

Keep in mind I'm running this turbo on stock fuel system:eek: I have the HKS adustable actuator so I'm running at .65 bar.

I've never seen a more acurate way of controlling boost! Never did the car spike once! I'm very impressed in the quality of that acuator kinda makes me wish I didn't spend 400+ on my AVC-R.

As of right now there is a noticable amount of lag, Can't give you any numbers right now as I'm still tuning the car. Plus I think that my exhaust leak has something to do with the increased lag.

As far as butt dyno goes....It's FOOKING incredible!:D At .65 bar the car feels much faster at WOT than my t-2slow at 1 bar. I can't wait to get my fuel system together so I can start running more boost. then things'll get fun:D

So as far as the GT2540 is concerned, I can't say whether I'm going to keep it or hock it. The only downside my setup is the increased lag. Now I knew there was going to be more lag to begin with but the spool up time I'm experiencing right now is just plain sad. .65 bar at upwards of 4 grand...I don't think so.
So today after work (if it stops raining!) I'm going to fix the exhaust leak and check for more boost leaks (already found one last night, car felt a Sh*T load stronger once I fixed it).

Wish me luck!

thats a big turbo for the SR.. I hear that turbo is good to 400+ HP. You really have to push big boost through it to make it worth it.

It's a BADASS turbo though! Congrats.. Now GET EVERYTHING SEALED UP, and Push some REAL boost through that bad boy. :)

nice, nice, Jed.

I bet you can probably buy a PS outlet from a SOHC and use that for the oil return line (just like on an S15 turbo install). Unless you already have something figured out.

About the HKS actuator...do you want to go into a bit more depth about that? I've got a T28 on the way, and I was planning to use a boost controller with it, but if the adj. actuator is as good as you say it is, I'll go with that. Could you compare the boost response sometime? Maybe after a few days of driving it with just the actuator holding boost, then loosen it and use the AVC-R to adjust boost. Please? Then let us (me) know which one gives better response. If the difference is negligable, screw the AVC-R...I'll just get the new actuator!

p.s. I hate exhaust leaks. That's my first task this summer. Well, that and putting new tires on and fixing the clunk in my front suspension (strut bearings not spinning, so spring is rubbing wierd).

Anyway, MO POWA!

wheres that huge azzed "this thread is useless without pics" smiley?!?! congrats man. fix the leaks get some fuel and lets see what she does!!

Eric - Im also using the HKS acutator as a boost control method and luv it hits 15psi and stays there rock solid. never once has it spiked on me and boost response comes in every bit as early and strong as the stock one. (this is on my stock T25 btw) I love it best 60 dollars I spent on the car in a long time :)

oooo interesting.. I'venever heard of this before. So it's the power steering outlet? can you give me some more info about that or gimmie a link.

About the HKS acuator.. I replied to your question about boost controllers.

At this point I think it's the way to go. I made several passes with the avc-r off and it never spiked once! One pass with the avc-r set at 6.5 bar and it spiked to .95!! stupid duty cycle:D

Sorry brandon I've got a bad habit of never taking pics when I work on my car! I really need to go and buy a digicam

click me... (http://forums.freshalloy.com/ubbthreads/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=UBB9&Number=371663&page=8&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1)

here's what I've found. Now, I can't add a personal stamp to this saying that it works (yet) but it's what I plan to do when the time comes.

Also, I was wrong before, it's the flange from the 91-94 SR20DE power steering pump...been a while since I read that thread (bookmarked).
