Hey guys i just finished rebuilding one of my friends sr's Its a redtop in a s14 silvia rhd. Now the problem is when the car idles it does not build temp. But while driving it starts too. The temp gauge will go about 2/3 up. During the build i made sure all the ports in the block were cleaned out. The water pump is good. There is a new radiator in it as well. I thermostat was sticking so i gutted the theromostat. The clutch fan wasnt locking up properly so i changed that as well. There is no restrictions in the cooling system. Is it possible by me pulling the thermostat that it can cause this to overheat in that kind of fashion. Your input would be greatly appreciated. Also the heater core has been bypassed.

I have the same problem... I think its the coolant temp sensor that is different from the motor and the gauge, but I have the same problem

Question is the s14 coolant temp sensor's different from the s13 coolant temp sensor's. Because what happend is the car came from japan with the redtop motor but it still had the s14 ecu and harness in the car. I definately know its the ecu and harness because its a wc ecu and the harness also has the plug for the vtc. I dont know exactly wth they did this to the car. I had to switch blocks because he cracked the other block from overheating due to other issues which are now resolved. But i never switched his coolant temp sensors over. Could this possibly be throwing off my reading to the gauge?

You need to change the water temp sensor since its an S13 engine. Water temp sensor has to be the same chassis for the cluster to work. So S14 into an S14 and S13 into an S13. If your not sure which water temp sensor I'm talking about, look on top the the thermostat housing and you'd have 2 sensors. You have a 2 wire and a 1 wire sensor, you need to swap out the 1 wire sensor for the cluster to work properly.

Hey I have a blacktop s14 into s13, I changed out the 2 wire and its still crap... Is there a 2nd one on the s14 as I should speak of. Should I have changed out the 2 wired one to s13 since its going into an s13 chassis? Where is the 2nd one that is located? Thanks!
Been looking all over for this.

So where do I get that one wire temp sensor? Is it same as KA24DE temp sensor or do I need to call up like nismoshop or west covina nissan?
