View Full Version : My Custom 180 Tail Lights...

They look kinda like S14 lights, or, as a look at my neighbors car from the window, Eclipse lights. Bought some Dautsan silver import spray paint, taped off the brake lamp part, primered it, and gave it 3 coats of silver. There's a little re-routing to do when putting the turn signals into the brake lamp housing (or the "red part") you have to ground/close the circuit and I did such w/a bent paper clip which also holds it in place. I took pictures today, but it will be a while till I get them developed. So here's what they look like on the Sil-80 truck...
http://www.zilvia.net/photo/data/501/5675silvia_truck.jpg
There was a picture of another 180 on Slide Squad, but that site isn't working. I've only seen 2 cars w/them. This truck, and the one on Slide Squad.

Yeah K-Style's Sileighty truck rocks.
I like that look, but i don't liek how much it looks like the DSM lights sometimes. I still hate to figure out whether I want to do that, make my turn signal covers clear, or (more probable) just leave them stock.:)

yeah, i actually saw that taillight concept on another S13 HB over here in the Bay Area a couple weeks ago at a big ass meet. I think it looks cool. I thought it was an S14 for a sec when i saw it on the freeway.

Beat you to it. Well sort of. Only dif is I left a small area open for the turn signal. I also painted the signal with a transparent red. Had mine like this for about a year and a half.

I give you innovative points, but no offense, looks-wise they don't compete. The other ones are faired into the body with bondo and panted with the body the same color making it look OEM. Applause for the DIY mod though... just not in the looks dept.:)

Well i'm glad you like it, but I don't. The rims are 5Zigen Fireballs. Look like 17x7 +40. Maybe running a spacer.

Does nissan really make a sileighty truck??? Would it be possible to make my s13 into a truck just like that one? I have some pretty innovative friends that could make it happen, but I would want it to look like that one!:p

lol...I cant believe I did not get flamed asking a question like that!! That would definetly be the ultimate wieght reduction. That would also kill the balance of my car, but I suppose I could cancel some understeer out with some suspension upgrades. Does anyone have more pictures of that silieghty truck?

It looks like the trick to make the 240sx a truck(and to look good) is with the pillars right behind the side windows. If I can blend them in like that truck it would make everything work! (kinda like a del sol) I would put a solid window in back instead of a slider though. I wonder what that truck would look like with wheel gap.

honestly that will look very gay. What trucks have pop up lights? I would stick with a silvia front, matches a whole lot better than pop ups, but either way it'll be a fun project, and you'll get a lot of constructive and creativity points.

Trying to copy the sileighty truck in everyway to have an actual "Kstyle" sileighty truck would be GAY!!! (just like having an actual silvia)"JDM!!! it is all about the usdm. I like the pop up lghts. I can respect your opinion, but I like pop up lights better than the sileighty style lights. I dont want to steal fastback180's thread anymore than I already did. Thanks for all the opinoins and pictures.

I think he painted the outside of the lens with a colour that matched his car. he also painted his turn lenses transparent red before he painted the black. spray some clear as the final top coat and your done.

Word, I'll post pics later. Like in a whole section for my car, cause I don't own any digital cameras. Right now I'm actually waiting for the tow truck to pick up me & the 180. IT'S GETTIN FIXED TODAY!!!! Yeah I never knew the K-Style truck had that body work on the back to make those lights. Cause I first saw that idea on a crazy blue 180 on Slide Squad. And the signals were just painted. Those tails look nice Two240. But you should hit some sheen on it. But me likes. Ohh and, Dousan, I got the Watanabes mounted on my 195/60 SP Sports that were on my stock janks. Needed to save a little money so I'm holding off on those 205/55's. But the 195/60's are still whodey.
Yeah Two240 probably layed down the transparent red before the black coat.

I wonder how a k-stlye truck would look with a 97-98 240sx front end. hmmmmm... I dont think s15 lights would work to well but s14 would look good. or if the k-style truck with the pop up head lights had a nismo front bumper that would look good. I wish I had some photo choping skills.:( (or even the program for that matter)

Nismo bumper looks like ass. GPSports G Sonic Type II, K-Style Type II (different than that one), Kouki 180 front bumper, or Sexy Style would look hot like sex.

I've also been thinking about doing some sort of tail light mod. I'm really trying to steer clear of the 180sx tails since thats what everyone around here is telling me that "that's what I'd do if I had your car". I already have the 180sx center bezel for my stock tail lights so I'm thinking of doing one of 3 things...
1.) tint the amber section of the tails red
2.) smoke the whole tail lamp assembly black
3.) send off a set to www.clearcorners.com to get the amber replaced with white/clear plastic.
Dunno which one I'll end up doing.

your car is looking pretty good! ^^^ how did you get the exhaust to exit on the passenger side? I think clear turn signals look good. But I also like the solid red lights. how about a translucent clear tail light(the whole entire light) by translucent I mean that light comes through the lens but you cant see through the lens like a clear altezza setup or something. transparent=see through----translucent=not see through but light still can shine through.

My plan goes as follows,
1) Get some new tails off of a 91 in the junk yard:
-Eather set it up so the break lights also works as a turn signal and get rid of the bottom
-Blacken the tails other than the signal and then tint the signals red, so it matches my body , so it just looks like my tails are black till it turn then they see the red :-D

nahh dude ur def good not going with 180 tails. and dont black em out either. either keep them just how they are(the 180 centerpanel is a nice touch) or spray the bottom amber part red. that's what i woudl do. btw ur car is soo nice
and why'd u flip ur pic, ur confusing a lot of newbs, making them think ur exhaust is on the wrong side.. lol

Why do people think that Kouki 180sx tail lights are "180 Tails"? thats like saying "Silvia front end". Which one?!
180sx came for 7.5 years with the EXACT SAME tail lights as us. (bar the 180sx lettering instead of 240sx). Then, only for 2.5 years did they have Kouki tailights (along with kouki bodywork). Everyone assumes that it is "Type-X" stuff. Errrrr. All Kouki 180sx looks the same. The front bumper was THE SAME, and aerokit was an option for all models, but came stock on Type-G and Type-X. Yeah, there was also a 180sx Type-R. Isn't that funny. They had Type-S as well.
Anyway, the point is: Only kouki (late model-96.5-98) 180sx had the tail lights you are talking about. All others were the same as ours.

No, you have zenki(early)/chuki(middle) center section. The kouki (late model) will not fit our lights. It belongs only with the kouki outer lights and trim piece.
I am of course assuming that your lights looks identical to USDM 240sx fastback, but instead of saying "240sx" they say "180sx". Like I said those are the first (zenki) and middle (chuki) taillights (same as ours).

Here are some taillights and their classifications (for anyone who may be confused). Also, some modified tail lights that look kinda cool.
Clear turn signals on zenki (early)/chuki (middle) style lights.

Stock zenki/chuki with painted center panel:

Stock zenki (early)/chuki (middle) lights:

Kouki (latest, newest, most recent, only-in-japan-model) lights:

wow my monitor is all f****d up it looks like a dark grey on my screen! hhhmmm... I think Iam going to have to get a replica kit of that, minus the front bumper. (molded sideskirts and molded rear lip) A gp sports bumper or a 91 bumper w/pdm lip would look good with that setup. I new that my car needed to be dark blue the minute I saw that car (months ago on another computer) :)

Yep, we still sell the 1/2 red 1/2 clear 89-94 Fastback tail lights -- we actually have several sets of these lights in stock so that we can offer core-exchanges to customers who cant afford downtime.
Not sure if you guys saw these, but I modified my 96-98 180SX dual LED tail lights (again). I got tired of seeing so many people using these tail lights, I wanted to try something different.
