Is it worth spending $550 on a set of front and rear cross drilled rotors. I don't mind spending the money as long as I get my $550 worth. Don't need to go over the cross/slotted debate. I'll try both and find out for my self. Should I get them from PDM? Suggestions would be appreciated immensly.
Build date is 10/95 SE 5-lug

are they a stock size? are they drilled after the rotor has been forged? if the answer to both of these is yes, then no its not woth it. and i'm gonna assume both answers are yes
the cheapest big brake kit i've seen is $2300US, and i have yet to find a stock size rotor that wasnt drilled after production.
imho 550 is a waste. you can find stock size drilled rotors for $200

Stillen makes pretty good products. I think they're a slight inch or two bigger than the stock size, though I'm not sure at all. I would pick them, though.
You've got ABS?
Stillen AKA $tillen or stealin is a rip off. Get some Brembo rotors for like $100-$120 a pair or even less. Stillen probly reselles some other brand for about 40% more.

They are really expen$ive. $tillen i$ I think the perfect way to $pell their name. However, their products aren't crap.

if the rotors arent a stock size, then youll need new calipers.
ebay has f+r brembos for 190
I had no idea that Stillen was spelled $tillen. I'm sure there products are good, but I guess not that good. How about PDM? I checked E-bay, couldn't find 5-lug.

Just do the 300zx brake upgrade. There will be no problems finding 300zx crossdrilled and slotted rotors. And if the $tillen rotors are an inch or two bigger than stock, they are NOT for your car. They can fit, because I know the 300zx rotors fit just nicely, and are about 2 inches taller. But then they needed new calipers...

unless you really need the 300zx brakes, theyre an even bigger waste of money. $1000?

Bah... I wouldn't spend a thousand dollars on a brake upgrade. But I did spend $450. About the price of pads, new lines, and rotors for the 240sx. And lemme tell you... those #### things will bite into the rotor and not let go. I've pulled my teeth out of the steering wheel the first couple stops that I made after the conversion was done.
BTW- Don't speak about what you don't know. A grand is only if you are lazy and don't want to go to 4 or 5 places to piece the system together. Like you can buy a turbo kit for $3500 or piece one together for $2500. And second, a big waste of money is crossdrilled rotors stock size for use with stock pads. You could theoretically lose stopping ability with those. And for how much?? $140 a set? The 300zx upgrade was one of the best things, and coolest looking, that I have done yet!

[clap, clap, clap!]
That's all!
P.S. Thanks for the advice, Jeff! I'll definitely do that when it's time for breaks!!!

i do know what i'm talking about. he never said he intends to do serious racing, so any upgrade is unnecessary. the x-drilled are ONLY for looks so why spend extra money for higher performance if you don't need it? that's like buying a dual-friction clutch for a geo metro. its higher performance, but if don't need it, who cares.
and most places do sell the 300zx kit for 1000. just cause you got it for cheaper, that doesn't mean anyone else will. 1000 is an average price.
i'm not saying that the 300zx brakes are bad, but just that theyre unnecessary for most ppl.

You tell him Vancouver.
And I agree, for the looks the brembo rotors on ebay are the way to go.
