i have to replace the rear tires on my car and i was wondering if a 215/50 tire would fit the 16inch S14 rims?
or should i just stick w/ 205/55 tire?
and what are some good tires for under 80 each? i was looking @ Yokohoma AVS ES100's. But the tread life seems a little short. SO i'm looking for a pretty good summer tire that has at least a decent amount of tread life. any good recomendations? or should i stick w/ the yokos?
i'm also looking @ Kumho ecsta supra 712's
yes, a 215/50 will FIT, but I think a 205/55 will fit better...people have gone up to 225 on the stock s14 rims, but I don't think that is a good idea at all.
I'm using and am very happy with falken azenis in 205/55/16 (about 85 each, lasted me about a year)
I've heard a few things about kumho MX tires, but don't really know anything about them...maybe someone else will reply on those.
kumho ecsta supra 712's last seemingly forever (compared to my falkens atleast...200 treadwear vs 320 or so) but are as hard as a rock, stay away.
Its nice to have matching tires front and rear for better balance, but if i had to change it up, i'd put the sticker ones up front...most will agree that understeer is much more scary than over.

I've been running 225/50/16s pretty much the whole time I've had the stockers on my car (had a set of 17x7 on for about a year) no problems. for under 80 bucks? check out Kumhos 711s and Yokohamas AVS ES100s both were good to my never got to autocross the yoks but I drive pretty aggressively on the streets and they served me well. very predictable breakaway I really liked them. I got a better deal on my new 712s and so far I like them too. but I've only had them a week so I'll give better impressions later

Id suggest 225/50s too. Biggest reason is that itll be wider than the rim which may or may not appeal to you *it did to me* but itll freakin save your rims from curb rash since the tire will rub the curve if do clip it and it wont touch ur rims.

Its a trade off. A narrower tire will have sharper response but less ultimate grip. A fatter tire will ultimately grip more but will be sloppy during transitions. Plus it looks stupid, IMHO.

does anyone have a pic of 225/50 on the stock s14 rims? that would really help a lot

a wider tire with the same aspect ratio will not necessarily have any greater grip in a corner.. maybe straight line.. but not in a corner. remember, tires roll while cornering
I have been running the kumho 712's for quite some time now. A great daily driver tire. They perform very well for the price, and have awesome wet traction. They don't get to their full traction potential till about 800-1000 miles.
Es100 is a good tire as well. I hear they last a long time, but are slightly less grippy than the kumho's
What are you gonna do with the car.
you have three basic options with tires:
cheap, longlasting, grippy.. pick two.
