I waaant a new handheld gaming system (iphone isn't cutting it anymore) I can't decide on which to get.
PSP:
Had it, got bored with it because nobody else has one :/ I heard it's possible to hack the PSP to play dl'd games, but I heard it's a bit harder than modding the DS-L/DSi
DS-L:
Free games seems pretty awesome, they're pretty damn cheap now since the DSi release.
DSi:
More expensive DS-L with a camera and web browser oh oh and a longer stylus. More free games.
Any opinions? Personal experiences? Advice? What do you own? Would you rather have one of the others?
Daniel.

The most cost effective would be the DS-L.
The most awesome would be the DS-i
PSP what? I had a 1st gen PSP. Sold it after a few months.
Honestly the ease of throwing game roms on a memory card and the affordability of the DS-L make it a winner in my book. The difference you're saving between the DS-L and the DS-i may not be much, but it's still money in your pocket.

DS or maybe DSi WTF.

DS is more durable, cheaper and FREE games, need I say more?

DSi is more cool factor, you're right, but hell, most phone cameras are better.. haha iPhone also has a web browser so I guess those +'s are pointless. I do like the matte black though.
With so many people selling their DS-L I can probably pick one up for half the cost of a DSi, spend the extra money on an R4, free games, and still ahve money leftover.

I have a DS lite. Hollar I never play it.
I can even sell you my R4 set up, but you gotta buy your own memory card ;)

Let me google that for you (http://lmgtfy.com/?q=psp+hack&l=1)
edit: ds is pretty simple to use as far as roms psp requires a little bit more intuition on doing the whole setup
just depends how capable and willing you are to do it
in the end though the psp beats ds

It's been out for ages, my nephew has one; it's pretty cool.
I actually like both, they both have their own unique features.
I am with s0apgun, so much stuff you can do with a hacked psp.

both have pros and cons..
I had a DS lite.. r4ds, supercard, etc.. even flashed the rom on it so i could boot straight into a supercard *pre-cartridge ones*. Was great, than i bought a zune mp3 player thinking id rather listen to music than carry the DS around.. I should have kept it.
DS has some fun games if you dont mine the simplicity of the graphics.
With todays handhelds, they are kind of a let down if you dont mod it and take full advantage of their hardware lol.
PSP looks kinda cool when you hack it.. but i dont know too much about them, i have friends who are gamers and they no longer play with their psps, they loose interest with em *but who doesnt loose interest in something when it gets a few weeks old lol*
Im thinking a netbook would be a crazy alternative, rock some emulators on it =D

I bought a modded psp and have been very happy with it. Love the fact that i can play psx and all types of games. Also being able to watch movies on it is pretty good also.

Yeah, that's how it is for me, I don't use my DS because i'd rather be playing my RROD... :P

For the noobs, RROD means red rings of death. So far my 360 never took a shit on me, I have had it for 2-3 years now. I'm on it more than my ps3.

my first one died on me about four days after i bought it. something broke inside and it started making grinding noise. returned it in the store and now i'm like 3 years in no problems. and if it rrod's there's a fix now.

I was actually tossing the idea of a netbook over, I mean it's only a couple hundred more dollars.

ps3 > xbox lol
The amount of xboxes that rrod is actually more people saying that they KNOW someone that it happened to, than actual people that it has happened to.
The games that you can't get on xbox that you CAN get on PS3 don't make having a PS3 worth it.
I would totally buy a PS3 if it cost as much as an xbox when I bought mine, of if they cost as much as the xbox does now.
!Zar!

The people I have seen who had their ps3 break is about even with the xbox owners who had RROD.
Oh yeah, PXP anyone?

to me, most GBA games have a higher playability than new stuff.
I just drop the new stuff after a while.
GoldenSun on the otherhand had me hooked.

PS3 media server> 360's media center.
It's so much better than the 360's version because you can stream any of your videos from the computer, it can be mkv, avi, and even srt files for subtitles. While 360 can only play wmv files. I was going to stream stuff from my comp to the 360 since it's in my room but the files that it's compatible with is very limited. So i just use the PS3 to play shit wireless from the living room. woot!

ps3mediaserver - Google Code (http://code.google.com/p/ps3mediaserver/)
You can run transcode 360 and nearly all file types open up for you. It installs on your PC, so no need to futz with the firmware/mod the 360.

running 4.01 m33-2 cfw on my psp 1001 so much fun. Just need a new battery since I made the original one a pandora battery. Been playing ff7 for 3months now. My ds-L broke at the hinges and don't know how to fix it.

well i know they were working on it
but its not as easy as doing it with a 2000
so generally people are still buying psp 2000's to run unlocked firmware
