hey everyone, tomorrow I plan to clean my new engine(my CA18DET) in my red 93 hatch. I was just wondering, what should I use to clean my engine. Please, no suggestions of pressure washers or hoses. Not all stuff is hooked up so I'm not gonna risk filling anything with water. Some sort a degreaser and a damp cloth with do for me. What kind of degreaser should i use? and does anyone have engine pics after they used that cleaner? thanks!

Well, on my old 'Lude, it used to have a coolant leak. I didn't let it sit for long enough, and removed the radiator cap, and hot coolant spewed all over the engine bay. Not fun.

It was then time for an engine cleaning...obviously. I just went to CT and bought stuff called 'Gunk'. Spray it on whole engine bay, leave for about 15-20 mins, and then I sprayed it off with a hose. I had to scrub the really dirty areas, but once it was done it almost looked new. Huge difference.

i used simple green automotive, works good, easy to use with just a rag if u wanted to be careful around everything.

Brake fluid will clean everything nicely and once yo're done with you engine, touch up your paint with it too. Brake fluid adds a nice metallic shine to any paint! :D

Personally, I use some no-name industrial degreaser. It can be found at airports or chemical distributors. It's mainly used to clean aircraft engines.

I hate simple green. It always leaves a thick nasty white residue on everything I clean with it. I've had good luck with purple power.

Any engine degreaser that makes your nose hairs burn will do the trick though. If you want the engine really clean, get a toothbrush like brush but with stiffer NYLON bristles to get into the crevices.

When I get serious about cleaning my engine.. I wet it down, scrub it, rinse it, scrub it, rinse it, etc.. until shes' spotless.
The goal is to be able to tell if you have ANY leaks on the car.
