My radiator hose has come off three times in the past two weeks. The first two times were my fault. The clamp for the upper hose doesn't tighten down like it should so I wasn't driving it. But then on a whim I had to and it blew off. The first time I didn't bleed it properly but the next two times I did (raised the car, turned the ac on hot..rad cap off went to take bleeder off and it was spit out coolant so I thought I was good). It came back loose again because like I said It was on a whim I had to drive it and I was still stuck with that loose clamp, also when the hose blew off it took some of the outlet with it. So the next day I purchased the proper clamp, raised the car up, ran the car with the heater on and rad cap off then took the bleeder off and kept squeezing the hose till coolant started to come out. I thought I was done. I tighten everthing down then some odd hours later when im going home it blows off again and I feel my car shutter then I turn it off. Half of the outlet is gone and what is left is so brittle I can flick pieces of it off.

Did I fuck up or is there another problem im not aware of? The hoses, rad. cap, and t-stat are new ( >600 miles) Also, I wanted to know what radiators if any could I use with the stock fan/shroud, should I go oem? I dont want to deal with e-fans if I dont have to. Im going to check the oil cap and dipstick tomorrow for milky residue(im wondering if I have a blown headgasket)..hopefully im wrong there.

Thanks

your hose just blows off like that? damn. im assuming your temp is pretty damn hot then, because i had to deal with a blown headgasket and a couple times i drove it till the temp was all the way at the H line, but i never had the top radiator hose blow off like that...

in any case, when i bleed my cooling system, i always park it on an incline (running) and take the bleed screw + radiator cap off, and then while im adding coolant to the radiator i wait till it comes out of the screw hole, then screw it back up (while your still adding the coolant)

its easier with 2 people.

if you screw it back in and there is still a bunch of air in the radiator, then when you squeeze the hose, your just going to move those air pockets around.

OP, funny thing I had the exact same issue as you!

TOp radiator hose blew off, taking the whole neck with it. Its the actual radiators platic weakening with the heating and cooling cycles that make it brittle, and when you use a worm hose clam, it cracks it..

Got a mishimoto radiator and now I can tighten the hose clamps to my hearts content.

When it happened to me I was at a gas station. I had to baby it home, luckily the gas station had distilled water. It still overheated 1/2 way home. Its hard to say if you warped it or not.

i bought a mishimoto radiator from agency motorsports aka jspecdirect.com with their hoses as well, radiator $225 with free overnight shipping & extra $45 for the radiator hoses. I'm able to still use the factory fan/shroud with some modification. Autozone had camps that were $3 for a pair.

i then had an overheating problem because my theremostat was stuck so now i'm driving without a thermostat and everything is all good now.

I feel better knowing someone else had the same problem as me. So you were able to use the mishimoto rad with some modification. That's what I was going to go with but I found another radiator that's all metal and is suppose to be a direct fit. I'm just waiting for confirmation from the company then I'll purchase. I checked the oil dipstick and the cap and did see any signs of coolant in there but I suppose that doesnt mean I couldnt have warped the head. Whats worse is that I was less than a mile away(a good thing but ironic) from home lol ive been having shit luck lately. What are signs of a warped head? Im going to take the housing off to make sure no bits of the endtank are in there.
