Electric fans will work great w/ the stock SMIC. Most SR owners don't have the clutch fan on and if you plan on running a FMIC on a s13 you will need all the fans you can get your grubby paws on.
I have been fighting heat since I put my FMIC on and two 12" electrics seem to be doing the trick but a day at the track will test how well they work:(
Cliff's notes:
The cluch fan or one electric fan will do the job if you don't have a FMIC if you do, get all the fans your car can handle!
FYI s14 owners suck 'cause they have better air flow than the s13's owners do:D

whaaat?
i know quite a few SR guys who use stock clutch fans w/ fmics
most did the same in okinawa (the ones who were stationed there that is).
they swear by them for best cooling.
but to each their own.

I know this one guy, he tunes S-chassis for the last 11 years... he has a red car with 350hp, and a green one with 500hp. And he told me to use the stock clutchfan and shroud. (like his red missle). But ahhhh, I dunno. I guess I would trust some dude on Zilvia over Koguchi-san.
Edit: This dude's green car has no fans since it is track only and has a TMIC and angled radiator with ducting to chanel the air.

I was just offering electrics as a solution in the event that he couldn't get a shroud.
A clutch fan without a shroud will just swirl the air around and not really do anything.

what heat probs u been having? what's the ambient temp? I've got the stock nose, FMIC, stock SR radiator, and stock fan/shroud, and have no cooling probs... should I be expecting some?

I was not directing it at anyone specifically.

I got the same problem. I got the stock clutch fan but no fan shroud. I was thinking about trying to make a custom one....maybe out of sheet metal or something. Is there any way to make the KA shourd work??

I never had a cooling problem until I put the FMIC on so I upgraded to two 12' fans and now don't really have an issue. Like I said before we will see how she holds up at the track.
Dorifto,
I am not doubting your "God" like drifter buddies but here in the USA it's not as easy to come by a fan shroud if you don't live in Cali. so I gave the man options on how he can possibly solve any cooling issues if he doesn't get his hands on a fan shroud. Jeez.
Whether he listens to me or you it doesn't matter, what matters is he is getting real world experience from multiple sources....kinda the whole purpose for the forums:rolleyes:

Without a shroud of some kind, your rad fans are not going to pull a lot through the radiator..
OF COURSE the stock clutch fan is going to keep the car cooler.. it spins MUCH Faster, and has a giant shroud that keeps all the air going through the fan coming from one place, and it effectively pulls air through the WHOLE radiator, whereas an electric will not.
BUT, for the sake of an easy to work on engine bay, and easily accessable parts.. Fans work fine.
I do recommend find someway to create a "Shroud" even for electric fans, and ONLY buy electric fans that come with shrouds.

hey if i were to buy an elec fan from summit, it'd come with directions most likely right. how to hook it up. but i was thinking of using an elec fan off of an '00 altima. i was told the work perfect.
what exactly am i hooking the fan up to, is there a harness somewhere or what?..
also what about the belts that the fan clutch was hooked up to?... will i need new belts.. or what...
i searched already, mainly all the same posts i'm posting here, with no consise answers. and conflicting info.
lets make this one different.
thanx

1. There is a guy on ebay (seller ID univparts) sells 12" electric fans for like $65. They pull or push 2400cfm get two and you will be golden
2. It is really easy to hook them up and a ton of options
a. toggle switch (what I use)
b. ingnition source (when you turn the car on it comes on)
c. thermostat (sold separately)
3. All you have to do is find a hot wire that pushes 12V to hook it up
4. You will not need new belts to take off the clutch fan
If you need any further info just PM me and I can give you a write up. The directions that I got with my fans are just about as vauge as the description that I just gave

I think this:
http://www.geocities.com/nd2boostt/woohoo.jpg
(care of sil80girlie.. copy and paste)
would be a MUCH better fan setup than what you are using Bakari..
I just wish I knew WHICH flex-a-lite fan that is...

Charles,
I know for a fact that would be a better setup but everything I have done has been on a budget and my fans are no exception. "What's best for my money" is my goal. $230 for the flex-lite as compared to $150 for my current setup. Plus I had no immedate plans for a FMIC until I got a deal of a life time and got my FMIC setup for $450:eek: :D
