View Full Version : Tire pressure/ tricks to make your tires last longer?

So Ive been wondering this one for a while now, and a recent search of this forum has come up with nothing, so here it goes...

Ive run everything from federal 595's to kumo ecasta's to pilotsports to gforce's to falkens to nankings to toyos to yokohamas and everything in between but i still seem to go through a lot of tires; most of the time around 6-8 *new* rear tires in a day, i must be doing something wrong. i pay retail for all my tires and let me tell you, it hurts.

currently i have been running my tires at 35psi, and i have adjusted my rear camber so the tires wear evenly, none of that inner tire ware shit caused by excessive negative camber. but my tires still manage to chunk like crazy and sometimes peel off in large strips.

I have asked around a little, and i have heard of people running their tires at 60psi and others running tires backwards others say do short runs and let the tires cool down in between.
advice?

I run take-off tires. I get them for free.

I usually run 50psi in them, regardless of what the max pressure on the sidewall is. I don't put the fronts that high, but the rears I always do.

I don't usually have problems with delamination, except with Michelin's for some reason.

could you be having wheel hop or are your struts dead?? do you have subframe spacers?

no wheel hop, i have apexi n1 coilovers pretty new, and spl subframe bushings.



I don't usually have problems with delamination, except with Michelin's for some reason.

that really funny because my michelins start coming off in huge strips after my first run (about 3-4 turns) ha ha

Ive actually noticed that takeoffs last about the same as new tires, maybe because they are old and not as sticky as new tires.

What pressure are your tires reaching when they are hot? Are you doing allot of 3rd gear drifting? Another thing you might try is to get a few heat cycles in on the tires before you drift on them. By that I mean do some sporty driving on the tires as well as normal driving to put heat in them for the first time and take them off. You will feel a difference in the new tire and the tire after a few miles on them (they will become much harder).

I have horribly quick wear due to 3.7* camber, I get about 5 runs in on take offs. Im going to roll my fenders so I can run a little less camber but I dont thing its going to help a ton because Im not really missing out on that much of the tire from being used. We usually run in groups and have 5 runs apiece per group out so I dont think 1.3* of camber is going to make my tires last another 5 runs. Also most of my take offs have horrible camber wear but are a brand new tire other than that and when I mount them I just stick the camber wear on the outside so the camber kindof helps me in a sence.

I would go back to using used tires honestly. Its a little work setting up relation ships with tire shops but I get so many tires I dont know what to do with them, but that is a good thing. I can pick and choose the best and anymore I find myself throwing out tires i once seen as gold and never even mounting them.

wow thats what i need, relationships with tireshops, everything in my area is really expensive. for example, used tires cost me around 40$ each for 17s and 50$ each for 18s
