View Full Version : trying to lower my car and confused
trying to lower my car.. went with a smaller tire so the sidewalls and shorter.. naturally I wanted to lower the car.
I jacked up the rear wheels and removed the wheels, loosened the collars, until they were no longer touching the spring.
no load is on the spring now

I only have two collars.. these coils suck
It's not like I'm uber low.. i should be able to lower it tire size is 255/40 on a 17x10.
track day tomorrow and I'm about to start killing people out of anger :axe:

thats an older style of coil. it doesn't have the lower perch adjustment so you won't be able to lower your car any more.

You need coilovers with separate ride height and preload adjustment.
what would happen if I were to just throw on the wheels and drop the car down?
and can how can i tell what is the lowest I can have it?

right now, u are drooping the spring. that makes ur shock travel off from what it is supposed to be. the lowest u can go will be how low the collars go

the collars are at the very bottom.. do i need to move them up until the spring had load?

i think you might have it backwards bud. screw both collars back up the the spring then spin the whole coilover making it screw into the bottom part. thats what it looks like from the pic

Like it was said befor thats the old style coilover there is no more adjustment if you want more take out the perches . But you look to be as low as your going to get .
I straight up said fuck it
dropped it with the sag.. my collars are at the very bottom
honestly I'm not even that low still.. lower but not 'JdM tyTE y0!"
I'll be buying new coils this week.. special order so it may take awhile but so far.. went out for a short drive and the car felt better than ever.. oddly

drooping springs is bad?
seriously?
people actually preload their springs and expect to be any where near low?

You do not want to droop the springs. IE lower the car by lowering the spring perch. You will just bottom out on stuff. If I was you I would raise the car up and put the collars where they are supposed to be.
If you want to be even decently low you need the proper coilovers. On most coilovers you adjust ride height by rotating the LOWER SHOCK BODY so the coilover appears shorter. The springs should have some slight preload so they do not move around when you are turning your wheels. The weight of the car is enough to make it so the spring rates do not change from slight preload.

How is 255/40 17s smaller diameter wise to stock wheels (205/55 16s)?!?! If anything, those are taller if not close to being similar.

If those are the super drifts your gonna have to take away some of the spring load to make your car really low. Super drifts suck if you want a slammed car

on single height adjustable crap all you can do is droop

on my previous S13s i had the spring drooped to fuck, and the lower mount was all the way up. it felt okay, but most importantly i was at a decent ride height.

id just tighten the collars back up against the spring, and start considering buying a better set.

HAHAHAHAAHAH TEIN SUPER STREET.
The fucking shittiest coilovers EVER.
I bought these like "My First Coilovers"
http://images-eu.amazon.com/images/P/B00005K4FF.03.LZZZZZZZ.jpg
then sold them 2 weeks after and got KTS.
Seriously sell those pieces of shit and just get Stance or something with 2 way ride height adjustment.
Those coils are terrible in all ways.

Im with sultan and ayuaddict... on my coils the springs droop too but my car handles fine and i have the ride height i want...which is slammed. The only thing thats bad is when you three wheel going in a drive way and the spring bangs back in place.

mine is weird because it doesn't make noise, it doesn't seem to come unseated while driving.
doesn't matter, new coilovers came today so i can get rid of these.

Yeah and I'm not a fan of Falkens because I used the Ziex 512.
You probably used one of their entry level trash coils or even worse lowering springs.

Just get some good coilovers. No such thing as drooping springs or removing collars on my kei office xr's because I can slam my car to the ground. Good coilovers have a ton of adjustment range
