well guys my 240's days have come to end. This is what happens when ur p.o.s. abs and crappy stock brakes dont work...

story behind it for all you who are curious:
i was riding on a bridge where its natorious for accidents(ppl local to me know this) just about every day there is an accident. I was driving 30 in a 35 and had about 3-4 car lengths of distance behind the car in front of me. I looked down for a quick second to close my bottle of water. I see the person in front of me instantly stopped. I slammed the brakes. The abs crap locked up and the car just kept going and going, by time i realized i am fucked(yes thats how far i was) and braced my self. Boom i hit the car and there you go, my car is gone. Worst of all i hit an 09 saturn vue that was so brand new it still havent gotten its plates:duh:. No one was hurt and the vue drove away casualy and all it had was a messed up bumper, bumper foam and reinforcement and a hanging muffler but my car did the usual 240 thing. Tuck in under crash....
Suprising the ac condesor and radiator are ok. Upper frame rail is tweaked a bit. about an inch pushed back. Doors close perfectly. Car drives straiht still. Radiator support is done. Hood is done and so are the fenders. I had to destroy them to take off the bumper so the cop could push my car off the road to the bottom.
SOoooo now i have 4 choices:
A: sell the car as is
B: pull the frame out( i know how to set it up on a computerized frame rack) and back to oem spec while keeping the title clean(insurance wont take it since i have liability on my end) and sell it like it is.
C. Part it out. I figure i could make around 1000-1400 in parts since it just reached 140k, perfect compression, passes smog, hicas, lsd, clean interior, misc
Then after all that i am buying a vert for 200.00 that needs new head lights, alt, smog, new seats, some minor body work, new top, new door panels, paint. I bet i can do it all for under 450.00(drivable0 800 painted and looking fresh. The vert only has 105k on it sooo i guess it'll be good.
I wish i had put on z32 brakes and rotors when i had the chance to awhile back..... my dads 82 camry stops better than my car. I tested it out and i should have easily made it.

that blows dude. why dont u track the car and daily the vert. since it still drives straight

hmmm i dont know. I am too lazy to fix it lol. I would need a raditaor core support and new hood, fenders, head lights and mounting brackets, varias mounts and stuff to get it back on the road and still have a clean title and under 140k. We'll see. If i can everything for under 200 at a pick n pull after i get the vert reg and running perfect then ill think about it. I can do it all since i do autobody work and its easy for me but mehhh this car has paid itself off. Paid 2.6k 4 yrs ago with 76k and collected 2.2k in damages ppl done to me and not big and if i sell it for about 1.4k-1.6k frame fixed then why not?

You said the brakes locked up, right? In that case, the brakes aren't the problem. Get some tires that don't suck.

Get some learn to drive that doesn't suck.
Maybe slow down?
Maybe don't follow so closely?
Maybe not fail at life?
Tie the core support to a tree, put the car in reverse and pull it out.

so you were negligent and wound up with an at-fault accident?

How does one even lock the brakes doing 30-35mph?
silpena

No i do not fail at life, i wasnt speeding, doing 30 in a 35. i wasnt driving close or ass kissing. i allready stated my distance. my driving skill is not it. you cant drive thinking ur the kind of the road or ur the best driver. maybe it was my tires. all i know it happened and obviously i am fualt. even the driver stopped for no reason or was on the phone, its my fualt. ppl stop on purpose and still win. you rear end someone= your at fualt.

I am stumped why they locked up at that speed.. they stop pumping.oh i am not gonna tie it to a tree. why do that when i pull it on a frame rack myself and get it back to oem specs??

Because its a $500 car that has now been reduced to a -$1000 liability.
I have had 11 240sx's since i was 17.
And while I have balled up a few of them in all sorts of situations, I have never hit someone at fault on the street. Because I never drove like a ricer or fanboy when I could put others in danger.
You were following too closely or speeding or not paying attention.
The braking system on the S13 is like a godsend compared to things like the 70's nova, foxbody, and 90% of the minivans, which are still on the road, not balling their cars up like ricers.
So thank god you didn't kill anyone, hope this guy doesn't sue you, (which he probably should) and take this chance to grow up, even if just a little, take things slower, pay more attention.
Otherwise an hero is an option.

this happened to me once. i accepted that i took my eye off the road (changing a cd at the time), and was at fault. it wasn't my tires. they didn't stop "in the middle of the road for no reason". if i'd had my eyes on the road, i wouldn't have caused an accident.

DANG... I FEEL FOR YOU BRO!!!
Just on the fifth (4/05/09) i was hit head on in my sivia front end hatch with an sr and many mods... My car turned to dust!!!! the whole frame is soooooo badly bent it won't even sit right... just by looking at it you can see the whole car sideways... the good part is that my sr got away with just a fucked fan, radiator, fmic, water pump pully, and a broken water inlet... but i just replaced the pully, fan, and the water inlet today... and she is running fine... now im saving up for a shell....

Tires are a factor, but it's the driver that sucks. Locking up the brakes stops slower then simple hitting them hard, but not locking them. You can also still steer.
How does one even lock the brakes doing 30-35mph?
What? I've locked up my brakes at 160 k/hour (100 mph). And that wasn't even pedal to the floor. That's with 255's and good alignment.
But then again, I have extraordinary brakes.

I allready accepted the fualt but i just woner wtf happend with my brakes. im not asking for pitty. im not buying a new shell. im fixing the frame and either selling it or parting it out. i am not a douschbag on the street. ive gotten into accidents and this is my first at fualt.... why cant understand. do u also think that i should sue the last 2 ppl who hit me? acidents happen, forgive, learn, move on.

hey ur the first to notice i am allright and not about the fact that i hit someone. Well today i got off with the insurance and got all that settled out. My insurance wont cover my car(obvious i did it on purpose) so the car will have a history of being hit on car fax(front end damage) but no salvage toitle. I was told by the other person insurer that they qouted" traffic suddenly stopped) but i failed and rear ended her.
This tuesday i will be putting my car on my computerized frame rack and getting it all back to oem specs. If i have time i might replace the radiator core support so everything is all good. If i can get the hood, fenders, front bumper and all brackets cheap enough i will put it back together.
If ppl want i can post pics of me pulling it, setting up the measuring sensors, the computer, the before and after readings on the computer. Maybe how-to- relace the core suport the proper way??? anyone?

It was the water bottle. Brakes have nothing to do with it. And when it comes to a 15+ year old car - you might want to check everything, before thinking it works properly. Man up and take the responsibility. I mean, better walking around looking like you pissed yourself, than an accident (spilled water). ;]

Just replace the front end or do a front end conversion and call it a day. If the frame is still good drive the bitch till she cant be driven. Too many good 240s go to waste these days. Plus your in CA, you got like 0 rust. Im out here in Chicago, even if my car sits it starts rusting... LOL

i locked my brakes up at like 10mph the other day. Its possible. Ive got good rubber and suspension to boot. I just dont see why a few of us are hammering this guy over an accident. He was on a bridge with no where to go, someone stopped short, 3 car lengths at 30 mph will close in less than a second, even if he had been looking his reaction time wouldnt have been sufficient to stop him before at least tapping the saturn. just a thought on my end.

Cut this guys some slack guys, he's already accepted he's at fault. We've all been there before when we know we're at fault (in general) but still have a hard time accepting it.
He works at a bodyshop so I'm sure he knows not to drive like at ass seeing all the wrecked cars that come in.
silpena, I would repair it and keep the car. All the work you would have to do just to sell it isn't worth it, IMO. Fixing it to back to where it was is the same thing as if this whole thing never happened. Then again, if your insurance rates go up I can see why you might need to sell the car.
Posting up the frame repair pics would be a cool thing for some people to look at. It would give some insight on what goes during the process and why it cost a lot for a body shop to do.
Glad you're alright, good luck with whatever you choose.

Damn that sucks!!!! Is ok nobody is perfect. Everybody makes mistakes =/ .... I had a few close encounter before where people randomly slam on their brakes and I had to jump to the next lane. btw I'm not those assholes who likes to tailgate in case some1 has a comment to say. If you tailgate for no reason and rear end pplz then all I can say is that your a dumb ass and deserve it.
But sound your tires didn't grip. Next time do 300zx brakes with upgraded rear calipers. (stock 240sx brake lack rear brakeing power) Makes you car stop much more level without having to nose dive and locking up the front when you slam on the brakes. 50/50 poportional valve ftw =)

The word is called accident for a reason...Be thankful no one was hurt and no one is suing your ass off..especially here in Cali...
As an EMS professional for over a decade I seen a million of them...Sorry it happened bro, but analyze why it happened ("I took my eyes off the road where accidents are notorious") and put that in your arsenal for the future....Good luck on the rebuild / new ride...

Yea ive accepted its my fualt by taking my eyes off the road. i checked my rotors and they were toast. i wanna check the abs unit see if they threw a code or somewat. anyone know if i can? other wise i am glad the other person is ok, first thing i did was jump out the passenger door to check since traffic was too heavy so steering like some ppl say would cuase more damage and possible chain reaction. id say 5-7 more cars would read ended too. that area is horrible and accidents are common. a biker died on those bridges. i just dont appreciate how some ppl say i cared more about ballin up my car and being ricer boy than safe drivng. i drive slow, i was driving 5 under the limit... hence the distance i had. i allways leave a huge gap on that bridge. just the other day some lady almost hit me and was swirving all wild. i hate going on that bridge but i have too. i no other way to get to school.
i was planning on taking all the panels today but its raing so i have to wait till monday... ill provide pics of the process of the frame pullling process. i just need to find my camera. im still not sure if i wanna replace the core support. i might just do it for whoever buys it to know its welded in right.
im not selling it becuase insurance increase. i just think the car lived ifs days and i want the vert becuase it holds a higher resale value stock. my car has paid itself off in damages collected from previous hits that iwas not at fualt. oh and i dont work at a shop at the momment, ik using the colleges facility since im real cool with old instructor, plus im helping finish some cars near their dead line. a camero and his shelby cobra body that needa alot of fiber glass work and blocking. if i can piece the cad back together for less than 300 then cool. if not oh well some one will get a good project car for a cheap price.

this is exactly the reason y people need to be more careful
"they slammed on the brakes" is not a valid excuse, its you fault for following too close, not paying attention, and not having good brakes/tires etc
i did not read this whole thread but what else can come of it

damn man, glad to hear your alright. I just got into a rearend accident about two weeks ago. I was going up a busy 3 lane road and this SUV in front of me jumps to the next lane. No signal no braking, just bada boom, hes a lane over, and bada bing,I'm kissing the ass of a 03' Acura RL. Happened in a split second and just like that, my hood is bent and front frame is pushed in. I feel you on the pain but your ideas of "get up, and move on" are key in this kind of situation.
