Ok. Fun time! Sr swap complete, tuned, and running. Here's the issue. After driving maybe 30 minutes at highway speeds, the transmission was really hot. The short shifter was getting warm. That seemed normal to me, but just to be safe, I pulled the dust boot. When I did there was a funky smell. Very much like natural gas. The transmission was rather hot. To the point that I couldn't touch it for longer than a second or two. I am running catless and with an ichiba exhaust manifold. The exhaust is right next to the transmission which could be a big part of the issue, but I wanted to run it by everyone. I don't even know if it is a problem but it seems like it was abnormally hot.
Here's the setup.

SR20DET @262whp
SPEC drift spec clutch/flywheel
auto to manual conversion
stock SR driveshaft
NIsmo engine/tranny mounts
tranny was recently filled with fully synthetic 75W 90.

What should I do? I need to drive the car cross country soon.

How much oil did you put into the tranny? Double check it and make sure you got enough in there.

oil only reduces friction, kinetic energy= heat, soooo oil only reduces the amount of friction from either the motor or trans. thus there still will be heat being displaced. im sure you either added to little or too much oil. either that, or you are smelling exhaust+gear oil+ oil burning from yiour engine on a hot surface. go open a bottle of gear oil and smell it, is that what your smelling?

yeah the oil is definitely what I was smelling. , but I guess I 've never smelled it before since the dust boot is always on. It caught me off guard. I think I'm going to wrap the exhaust from the elbow to the mid pipe to help drop temps. I'll check the levels tomorrow and look for shavings.

If your exhaust is so hot its cooking your tranny, you have bigger issues to worry about. Time to start figuring out why your Exhaust Gas Temp is so hot. Check your timing and make sure its not advanced.

it's on a break in tune with plenty of timing left in it and it's running a bit rich so those aspects should be fine. I'm going to drive it around again next week after paint and check the temperature of the exhaust and make sure it's not abnormally hot. but either way, wrapping it should help eliminate SOME heat soak
