Last night I had the race of a lifetime. I was out at the local scene last night here in Maryland while cruising White Countach passed me on the other side of the road so i made a U turn and flew to catch up to him. We were gewtting ready to catch a light when some ashole in a plymouth Laser turbo pulled in front of him to try to race me. so after the plymouth turbo came of the line i pulled next to the Countach while we were rolling Now in about 3rd gear 4000 rpm I was trying to Engage the countach in a race he Obliged IT WAS ON he first pulled a half car ahead as i stutered to hit the gas the I flored it pulling past him by at least 1 car. (Man that car sounds good at WOT). So needless to say Im pumped and here comes a red light Im about to [censored] my pants "thinking no way I get to race him from a stop too wooo hoooo:. HE opens his gullwing door and "asks what did you do to that thing" I said " Man this is a 20,000 car in Japan And it's almost stock" He smiled and said Its fast as SH!T" I told him thanks and no sooner did i see a cop pull up right behind him so I told him there was a cop behind him and he shut his door . No sooner did the light turn green Cop turned her lights on and pulled the countach over. Man I felt so bad for dude but it could of and should have been me So I took my win and lack of ticket right on home. So needless to say no race from a stop but I BEAT A LAMBORGHINI COUNTACH where i expected to lose the most on top end!!!! MAN DO I WISH I HAD MY CAMERA SO MY BOY RIDING WITH ME COULD HAVE TAPED FOR YOU ALL. AS I KNOW THERE WILL BE SOME DOUBTERS POSTING HERE SOON

I am just glad you finished the story :D , unlike some people

LOL anyways nice race, seems cops are on everyones ass nowadays, too bad the cop ruined all your fun, would have been nice to talk to a guy who owns a lambo, I am surprised you beat him, but I am sure he would have owned you if it went longer, or from rolling, those european cars and their high top speeds.

Anyways, what are the specs on the lambo, don't know much about them, its not the type of car I would ever research $$$$$$$.

countach's were fairly slow by modern standards. Still, impressive for a 240.

No offense or anything... but where in the hell did that statement come from. I checked more than one resource and even the oldest Countach they made was running 0- 100km/h in a little less than 6 seconds. And they got as fast as running 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds before they stopped making them. I don't mean to embaress you, but please think before you post. Thank YOU:D

actually the 5-second 0-60 was for the last year or two of the countach, most struggle to break 6 seconds 0-60... same goes for other 80s exotics like Testarossas and Ferrari 328s and such. trust me, you'd be surprised how far even the "lower-end" modern sports cars have improved. My dad has a Ferrari Mondial cabriolet and a mildly-modded Porsche 944 turbo... the 944 turbo is a bit faster than a 3rd-gen RX-7 up to 100, then will walk one at three-digit speeds. the 944 turbo will CRUSH the mondial at any speed.

Jsquared is correct, I don't care what the "factory" time was, look up reviews of the car and you will find mid 6's were the norm for the countach for the majority of the years it was produced.
It was very quick for the time, and at speed would probably "walk away" from an awful lot of cars, but as far as its low speed, its high gears, low torque (though still twice what my car probably makes) and limited traction mean relatively high times for the 0-60.
Please don't insult me when its you that didn't bother to check.

u dummys forget, he said he started in 3rd gear around 4K. So 0-60 don't mean **** and you are all poo. :-D j/k

Nice kill when did they stop making Countach? Thats pretty amazing if you beat him with a passenger.

i've seen a wrx beat a badass ferrari at "the races"..
actually i was told, i dont go to the races.. they're illegal;)

but anyways... i'm one of those doubters. it's just soo hard to believe.. but the numbers tell me its true, and not trying to discredit you, but thats a hell of a kill if it really happened...

so i guess good job!.

A countach I think runs 11's in the quarter, and if u run 13's how did u manage to beat a countach.

I don't believe that they run 11's in the quarter mile.

Edit:

Thats real F*in fast. Especially even stock.

If you guys go to www.car-stats.com you can see what any production cars 0-60 and 1/4 mile times are. as far as beating him on the top end I just straight up had more power than him period if we continued going the only time he would have passed me was when my fuel cut kicked in.

There's a guy in my city that I see sometimes that has the newest model Diablo. When I first met him, I couldn't believe my eyes. Then after talking for awhile, he told me it was a kit car. It looked as real as it could be.

yeah you know a sure way to tell?
if you ever see a real diablo you will think "damn that thing is big."
they are huge cars, I mean not as narrow or as small as you might think.
The fiero's are a lot smaller.
I saw a kit car fiero parked next to a diablo, and the diablo just dwarfed it.

yet another modern automotive myth... most anything Italian from the 80s is not considered fast anymore. case in point: we own a 1986 Ferrari Mondial convertible. slow as nuts. it'd get crushed by a stock Z28 in straight-line acceleration.

ahh the mondial's....
did you expect more for a ferrari you can find in good condition for 20k?
They are nice cars, I would love to own one, but parts and mantinence are just sooo much.
they are also slow as balls... even at the time it was admitted by most publications that they were more of a poor man's ferrari.
but they are still a ferrari, still a beautiful car, and still something I would love to own.

also, I forgot to ask, where in maryland was this? I've been to the huge, huge cruises and street races in the summer at Hagerstown, cops everywhere! still a lot of nice cars, especially if you like hondas.

I know exactly waht you mean about knowing the difference real ones are so long it's easy to spot a kit car. Most kit cars also have a terrible wheel offsets.

i know exactly what you're talking about :D we knew pretty much what to expect, my dad just always wanted to own a convertible ferrari and was finally able to do it. it is exactly the way the stereotypes describe an Italian car: sexy, great sound, and a ROYAL PAIN IN THE ASS! lol. it's a pain to work on, and the weirdest, most random crap somehow decides to break on you. freaking gorgeous though... italian racing red with tan leather interior/tonneau, and F40-style (F40s had center-lock, these are 5-lug, made by same company: Chromodora) multi-piece wheels ...droool...

Countach was never slow, just not always quick. the top speed has always been sweet. quarter mile is quickness not topspeed. As for when they stopped making them I forget the year off hand but the Diablo took over production for the countach just as the Mercielago(sp) took over for the Diablo.

andrave
03-28-2003, 11:26 AM
not exactly, in 90 or 91 I believe (I think it was 91) the diablo replaced the countach as an all new model. The mercialago (sp) is a redone diablo, they share a lot of stuff.
And yes, top speed has always been good... one of the reason they were FAST but not QUICK. quick means acceleration. speed means they needed to be geared high enough to reach whatever their top speed was, like 170 or something? not sure. anyway, they have really long gears.
in the newer (and quicker) diablo they overcame the problem with mountains of torque and wheel drive.
the diablo SV is one of the quickest ever, and it is RWD but features a shorter gear's and has a lower top speed.

lol btw it's murcielago, which is spanish for bat, like... the animal... not the baseball bat :D :p
