It looks like a 92 300zx its a TT but the title is 88 300zx .:duh: and vin on dash matches title. :stupid: but looks legit not touched. engine bay I cant find the vin neither. on the door says the same vin as the titled 88 ZX. My brother drives it to work everyday :2f2f: but if a cop pulls him over and sees that a 88 zx is registered to a new body style what would happen is it possible the guy before did a conversion? he was are neighbor for some time old guy. I looked up the vin and its a clean 88zx title didn't have any problems getting it registered. just worried mainly what would happen if he got pulled over is it common to covert those I never heard of doing it. I have a 91 ZX and they look identical

OMG...please learn how to construct a proper sentence and then post a question. I'm not much for flaming but that was horrible. FWIW, why doesn't he go to the DMV and ask them?

Maybe I am misunderstanding.
Does the VIN on the Dash, Firewall and door match?
tangch
04-27-2009, 04:35 PM
I think he meant that there are no vin on both of the door.

Is there a dash VIN?
300zx91
04-27-2009, 04:48 PM
Yes there is a dash vin and it reads exactly as the 88 title reads and there is 2 stickers on the doors that read 1988 300zx with the vin number thats on the title also
There is no firewall vin I cannot find it I looked everywhere on that engine bay

could it be that its an '89 model with '88 paperwork? they didn produce the '89 models in 88 (august-december). i'd try one of the z forums myself.

WTF? how is that possible... UNLESS the engine bay has been repainted..
but n e ways.. its about a few inches away from the battery towards the driver side...
and the vin plate under the hood is where the struts mounts up.

Is there an emissions sticker on the hood(underside)? Do the VIN plates look like yours?
300zx91
04-27-2009, 06:14 PM

check for vin plates on the firewall if you haven't.
i didnt read the thread if you did mention it though.
if you still have the bill of sale, try talking to a lawyer if your brother gets charged with anything. even if he doesn't it's probably best to get a consult.
300zx91
04-27-2009, 06:34 PM
Yeah maybe what would a cop have to argue against it though? the firewall could have been painted its clean enough to be is there any other place a vin would be? I have a title and bill of sale he got the title transfered and registered today
brndck
04-27-2009, 07:09 PM
so if he was able to get the title transferred and registered, and all the vins on the car match the title you have, what is the problem?
S14DB
04-27-2009, 07:14 PM
He needs a firewall vin to be legal. I PMed him with some more info.

maybe its an extremly early z32. What month of 88 was it made?

Ill try to go around the fire wall with some light thinner and sand paper hate to do it but gotta do what you gotta do update towmarrow
There should be a vin on the engine but idk if the engine is original title doesn't say turbo I'm just worried cause there is no such thing as a 1988 in that generation unless it was like a concept prototype or something in that nature if its stolen someone could have took the vins off a 88 couldn't they? would the vin plates look different though? I had a 87 didn't pay much attention to the vins though

Does it have airbags? Is the AC levers or digital? Nissan logo on the front fascia? Do the floor matts say 300zx or Z?

The front end was actually hit when he got it so the air bags are deployed but only in steering wheel not the passenger I'm not sure if there is passenger air bags I believe its levers, and it says 300zx idk if mats are original or if anything is on this damn car I cant take pics until this Friday or weekend I left it up north with my uncle when we took a trip he shipped it down today its white t tops its not the pearl paint just plain white with tan interior

If all the vins match up it should be legit right? what should I look for when trying to see a tampered vin plate?

Ya I want to see this

if the airbag is deployed there's a good chance its a salvage car with swapped vin plates and a bad title. there were a couple of RHD hondas running around middle georgia with american vin #s. . . there was a big fuss about it a few years back. some guy in south carolina was importing whole cars (the east coast's customs office aint like in cali) and swapping vins off of beat ass american cars with clean titles.

Take the shit to your DMV and find out the details. The DMV can designate a VIN replacement if its legit. The will stamp and put new VIN numbers on the car.

talked to the previous owner today, turns out the car was a older style 88 in 1991 the guy crashed the car relating to a warranty issue. the car was totaled so they ended up giving him a base level leftover 1990 Z, typed up a new title put the vin, but never changed the year on the new title, He told me to take it to nissan or DMV to have the correct year typed up on the title should I do this? I did look at the door stickers again there kinda messed up but there defiantly is a 19xx 300zx there then it says the vin and all the other bull crap I can post pics possibly monday next week thinking about just waiting to you guys to see all the pics

It's gotta be a title error. Use this.

See if the VIN matches the Z32 and VG30DE(TT), etc.

Fuckin ay. The DMV probably put the wrong year in the system when they typed up the title at some point.
Like a million people have said already, go to the DMV and find out. You'll have to go register the car anyway at some point, right?
300zx91

Car is registered but for a 1988 I think im just going to ride it out and see what happends all the vin#'s match the title the one under the hood matches on dash and on the side door

"better to be safe than sorry" is the adage that comes to mind here.
"1998 nissan 240sx with illegal mods" also comes to mind.

Does anyone know 100% if the older Z vin plates look any different then the new Z plates If they look the same we could have a problem.

You keep asking questions...Take the shit to the DMV and straighten it out. It's better than getting pulled over by the cops and trying to explain all this shit to them. They will probably arrest you and treat you like a thief before they listen to all your comments. Take it to DMV. Be proactive.
Do you think the effin cops know the difference between a old z vin plate and a new one? C'mon dude...let the DMV handle this.

Hell, 90% of police officers probably don't know the difference between an '88 Z and a '92 Z.

look on the windshield, drivers side on the bottom, there should be a vin # etched in the glass. Also, check the driver and passenger side windows, along the bottom the vin# is also etched.
