When I bought my S13, I noticed when I lock my driver side door, it also locks the passanger side door, but when I unlock the driver side door, it doesn't unlock the passanger side door. However, if i reach over and unlock the passenger side door, it unlocks the driver side door. At first, I didn't think anything of it, I just thought the logic was so if you have a date, when you unlock her door, it unlocks yours too. But, when I was talking with THX1138, he said his passenger side door was totally independent. Did someone mess with the wiring of the doors before I bought my car?

thats still better than mine.... only my driver side door locks opens and closes. i think im missing the power door lock machine thingy on the other side becasue when i took apart my doors, the driver side seemed to have more stuff in it than the other side. put it this way... my passanger door is fully manual and the key hole thing doesnt even work. holla
mixedwell ;)
i still love her tho!

You must have an SE. Mine does the same thing. There is an actuator in the passenger side door that is not in the Drivers side.
Just go get a cheap keyless entry system or put an alarm on that has keyless entry and you won't have to worry about it anymore. Just point and click
Edit: you will need to purchace an actuator to go in the driver's side door. Don't pay more than $100 installed.

How can I tell if my hatch is SE or base? The emblem was gone when i bought it.

 Where is the actuator in the passenger side door? I just finished putting power locks into my '92 base from a '90 SE and there is not a extra actuator.
I have two '90 SE's and they don't have an extra actuator and you don't need to buy a ~$100 actuator for the drivers door to have keyless entry. I put in a alarm system in one of my '90s and did not need to do this.

Redline: You would have a SE if you have power windows and locks, crusie control, and maybe a sunroof.
As for you locks that sounds weird because mine are the oppsite. I lock the drivers side door and the passenger side locks.
I unlock the drivers side door and the passenger side unlocks.
I lock the passenger side door and the drivers side door does nothing.
When I installed PL into my base model I mixed up the actuators and put the drivers side actuator in the passenger side and vice versa. This coused the locking of the drivers side and passenger side to be oppsite and not work right.
Maybe one of your actuators had to be replaced and they put in two drivers side actuators or two passenger actuators. I'm not sure.
BTW what year is your car?

But if she doesn't have to reach over and unlock your door while you're walking around behind the car after you let her in, she loses that little chance to show her appreciation for your gentlemanlyness, uh, chivalrousness, Southern charm, or whatever it is. :)

They may have changed how the locks work on 91+ cars because on my '92 there are a few things that are different than they are on my '90.

my 90 always unlocks both doors if i open the car from the drivers side. upon exit, if i lock the drivers side door with the lock button the passenger side locks about 90% of the time, and if i unlock it and try to lock again it barely ever works. was it like this stock or do our cars have some kind of short?

I learned this from a bronx tale back in the day when i was in my teens. I still follow that, or look for it when I am with a girl.

Mine is a little different from everybody elses. I can control the passenger side lock with the driver side in both locking and unlocking, but I can only unlock the driver side lock from the passenger side. This guy at a car stereo store said that it might be like that so you can't lock yourself out of the car from the passenger side.
