So, Im trying to attach the tranny to my dual cam but I keep getting like 2 fingers away, what could it be. The splines seem to be matching up since the splines in the back won't turn anymore, can someone give me some hints or tips, I need this done today. HELP ME JESUS!!

I always put mine on like this:

Looking at the back of the motor, I tilt it to the right so the starter mount on the transmission is paralell to the ground. Put it up, play with the pitch for a minute or two to make sure the input shaft is level with the flywheel, then rotate it back and it slips right in.

Before I found out how to properly put it on, it seemed like it was impossible. Main thing is making sure you have the input level with the flywheel and the splines matched up.

Have Fun

I'm having fun alright, the engine is not in yet so it seems like its impossible. If I rotate the shaft from the back of the tranny it should move the input shaft, right?? Does being two fingers away sound normal, there not much you can fuck up in the bellhousing for it not to be inserting right.

that happened ta me a few times. this is what i usually do. since or it the tranny is on a tranny jack. you push the tranny and it goes in and thes like a half a inch left and wont go in. i get in back of the tranny and kick it in....... it works.

Make sure you are in Neutral. You used a alignment tool to put the clutch in?

So, neutral you say, is there a reason for that? I'll have to try that too. I did use an alignment tool. I keep getting told to put the tranny upside down, and then insert it and then rotate to get the splines in correctly. How does that sound.

The input shaft should easily rotate when it's in neutral. You should only have to rock it a little bit side to side to get it in.

instead of any high tech lingo

hold it up with a buddy and face the starter side up to the frame and twist it downward and push till it locks then use the bolts to close it up the gap.

Check the little nudges on the tranny. The circular things that stick out on the tranny where it connects to the engine and on the engine there will be a hole where these nudges slide into.

On one of my trannies there was an extra one of these that shouldnt have been there and it prevented me from connecting the transmission to the engine. Once I removed it the transmission went right in. Make sure they line up and your not missing one or have an extra.

putting the tranny in upside down is a bad idea. if you want oil everywhere then go for it.

LOL.

I'd like to see you put an engine in a car with a tranny full of oil.

i've done it before, whats so hard???

i always plug the tail shaft tho so no oil spills out.

OP: if you've taken out the shifter it will come from there

I had the same problem with a KA. I got it to go in, by rotating the transmission clockwise and vise-versa. Could also be that you're not straight.
