I'm interested in a ECU upgrade and i have two questions.

1) Anyone make them other than JWT?
2) Would they send a new one or do they reprogram your?

any replies will be appretiated

well a lot of companies do ecu's for sr20det's but I'm assuming that you have a ka motor...so jwt does and so does Jun...but Jun actually requires your car because they dyno the car as they are tunning it....so being from NJ I don't see that as an option...besides JWT is the shit when it comes to nissan tuning

One more question about how hard is it to install one?

ZeroGS14

easy as ####...with a jwt..all u do is take out your ecu unplug it and plug in the new ecu

Also, if you want them to upgrade yours, you gotta send it in to them. If you want them to send you a new one and you give them yours, it's an extra $500 deposit.

yup..lol but jwt is only down the street from me =D

extra $500! i don't want to have to wait around n not be able to drive my car while i wait for them to send me my ecu back.  r there ne sites where u can buy it, then as soon as u get it, just send them urs from ur car?

Bank: that's a deposit, you get it back once they get your ECU.

"deposit," keyword i missed there, guess i read it 2 fast n just posted, oh well, makes sense now.

i just checked the jwt site, n it says that they only make them for 89-95 240SX's, have they not updated their site? seems like i've seen it for my car somewhere else. does nebody have a 96 w/ a jwt ecu upgrade?

Also when you swap ECUs be sure to unplug your battery <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Check out http://www.haltech.com.au
I don't know how much they cost (probably expensive) but Duy from Texas with the 10.83 1/4 recomended these.

i know JET makes them for imports... anyone know if they make one for 240sx?

I know that stillen and superchips make pretty good chips for the 240's.

But does anyone know how much it is just for the chip, not including the deposit?

ZeroGS14

don't bother with the chips....and they do ecu'
s for the 96-98's as well

JWT told me they could get the computer back in a hurry like mailing it back the day after they get it. so down time would be minimal.

Hey if you really want to get a good ecu go out and get a G-Force ECU, I think that they are the absolute best ECU to get and its allot cheaper than the JWT.

JWT doesn't &quot;really&quot; do 97-98 ECU's, they just send you a 95-96 ECU. The 97-98 ECU is ODBII, it's not reprogrammable... well at least they haven't broken the code yet, but it's actually an advantage to use the 95-96 ECU, you can get rid of the second O2 sensor. I think the connecting harness is different, but if they don't send you one, a junkyard would be a great place to get one, actually you can get a whole ECU so you can still drive your car while JWT sends you the new one

do i HAVE to send out my old ecu to have it reprogrammed?
or can i somehow use the one that they sent me with my motor...? help please!!!!!!!!!

hmm then u r in trouble dude......
the one that came with the engine is suppost to be used..... call them up and ask them.. maybe u can leave them a deposit

Unless you've done everything else, cams, intake, exhaust, headers, pulleys etc. &nbsp;I wouldn't get an ecu, the performance factors a good, but maybe not so much for the money.

But if your going turbo it will be a must.

Your car wouldn't run normally (and you'd notice it) if you still had your stock KA24DE ECU in with an SR20DET. &nbsp; And I'm almost sure that JWT will not upgrade an ECU to be used with an SR20DET motor, but will only upgrade the KA ECU to be used with either everything stock or a NOS system.

You have to use the ECU that came with the SR, &nbsp;your old KA ecu won't work. I'm sure JWT could upgraded the SR ECU but you'd be better off buying an upgraded one from Japan. Here is a page with ECU upgrades, pretty much it looks like you only need the fuel cutter to get over 18 psi, and you need the chip upgrade to go over 300 HP http://web.norrisdesigns.com/product_overview.asp?ccode=21&amp;id=2 (http://web.norrisdesigns.com/product_overview.asp?ccode=21&id=2)

how much will a ECU help wiht just exhuast, headers and intake?

Does it matter if i have and automatic, like will it have the same effect?

S13Grl
10-24-2001, 04:04 PM
I really don't know about figures with an automatic. I know that they are about a 15% hp gain, or something like that. Not sure, don't quote me!

ZeroGS14

actually jwt does reprogram ka ecu's for sr20det engines...also you can use your ka wiring harness, but in so doing so you lose the direct fire ignition that is on the sr20det....they convert the sr20 to run on a distibutor...

IceTekGuy
10-24-2001, 10:00 PM
so i can use the ecu that came with the sr motor? without problems?

cause it did come with the sr ecu, but i was just thinkin &nbsp;it might not work, some one mentioned that to me... my mechanic says it might not have to be, ... he can reprogram it himself but then i would need the numbers, or the program to upload into it....

please the more info the better....!!!!!!!!
THANK YOU ALL

IceTekGuy here is a link on how to hook up the ecu to the engine -----&gt; <a href="http://www.eurostreetgraphics.com/srswap.htm

Why" target="_blank">http://www.eurostreetgraphics.com/srswap.htm

Why</a> spend money on a rigged up KA ecu when you have the real SR ecu? Just get the SR ecu installed and you'll be fine.

i have previously seen this link, but have never been all the way through it,
thanks ca18guy, you been a big help and all of the others in here that responded <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'> <img src="http://www.zilvia.net/f/iB_html/non-cgi/emoticons/smile.gif" border="0" valign="absmiddle" alt=':)'>

Update: my Sr motor is all the way in, and is having all the hoses and wires and plugs attached tomorrow, so saturday, it should be ready, i will thread up about it in its own post... and throw up some pics...

Thanks Alot everyone once again
