I have a 89 240 sx and the engine went out, I just wondering if I can replace the engine from 2000 nissan truck like frontier or so.
Are they the same, if so I can get really low miles engine from junk yard and replace mine.
Hope some one knows the answers!
Thanks~

no I think the newer frontiers use a sohc vg engine.
the older nissan hardbodies use the sohc ka, however they are cammed differently and putting one in your 240 will probably make it slower than it already is.

I used to have an 85 Nissan truck with a KA24E in it.. it had dual spark plugs for each cylinder.. dual distributer setup, with a MUCH lower redline. what year truck KA are you talking about?

Thanks for reply...
I was thinking the 2000 truck engine will be in really low miliage, but since it's not gonna be work, maybe I will just save money for SR~

That wasn't a KA. That was a Z24. It was Nissan's emissions fighter, and it's a predecessor to the KA.

I theory, yes it will. You can make any motor fit any car. However, with the truck KAs, the manifolds are different as well as the head. If you got a truck longblock and swapped everything from your motor onto it, it'd work perfectly. The longblock is exactly the same, except maybe a few differences in pistons/compression, etc. The oilpan may be the same, but i'm not sure. Also, the KA24DE was only in trucks after '95 or 96. You can also find a KA in the 4cyl Xterras.

All the 4-cylinder Xterras had the KA24DE in it, take your pick, but get EVERYTHING. Where are you, because unless you feel you must have the KA from an Xterra, one of these guys with swaps may have an extra KA to sell you pretty cheap too.

Thanks!
I am in San Diego!
I am thinking about KA24 from truck because I can got them relatively low miles and cheap.
I know many people will sell KA if they do SR swap, but mostly likely KA from S13 are all high millage and old.
Anyways, if anyone has KA engine for sale in San Diego in really good running condition and cheap, I don't mind to buy it.
Thanks~

I would, but I'm in North Carolina right now. I'll hopefully be back there in a few weeks.

It is not going to be a straight bolt-in swap to do a truck KA into a 240SX. Nobody has done it...so nobody really knows what the differences are. There are a lot of parts that don't swap over.
You'd be better off to do a DOHC to SOHC KA swap. Get the ECU, harness, MAF, intake pipe, manifolds and power steering stuff from a DOHC S13, and get a low mileage engine from an S14.

Hi:
I was thinking about dohc S14 engine, but how about smog issue?
Can we do the swap legally, I am doing this for my daily!

I think the rule in Cali is that you have to swap over all the emissions equipment...but they won't know the difference between an S13 and S14 DOHC KA (block and head). The differences are minor, and there is no way they'd figure it out.
So, you'd just do a regular SOHC->DOHC KA swap...acting like the KA is an S13 KA (with it's emissions equipment, intake manifold, engine control system, etc.) just using an S14 KA for the mileage.

i have 4 rebuilt ka truck engines sitting in my shop, to bad im in idaho because i need some business.. lol. the 91-9? sohc ka truck motors block is cast in mexico vs. japan. i have seen many with austrailian heads but no japans. the castings on these mexican made seem to be a bit shoddier (if that is a word, oh and no racism intended i am german it just comes out that way). like mentioned before the dohc ka truck motors have less aggressive cams and the head makes the engine. imo it would not be worth the trouble if you want to jump to dohc find 91-94 240 and get everthing even wiring harness, it will be a job. unless you have a sr20 readily available i would stick with the sohc ka, find a cheap truck engine and swap your manifolds and cam. oh and once again mentioned before it will most likely be mexico block. i have had no problems with these i just prefer 89-90 japan sohc blocks

Hey man, if you don't mind takeing a small road trip you can have the ka I took out of my 240. It has less miles than my odometer reads and it runs great. Well it passed smog, let me put it that way. I'm serious, you can have it for free. The only thing I'll need off of it is the tranny since thats my spair for my SR.lol email or PM me and let me know whats up.

Well, its a complete engine, well minus the spark plugs, and it runs. All you got to do is pull yours and put in mine. Its in fairly decent shape and is the same year or a year newer than your car. Distance, I beleive it takes around 8 hrs to drive, thats at the most, I made it in about 6 hrs the last time I went down to Diego. I just relized though that I have storage fees due on it. So I would have to say 100dollars for everything, including the transmission, and its yours. The tranny is a 5sp and needs a clutch, and probably a oil change. Other than that its sound, the engine burns a little oil, about a quart ever 500mi or so. But I was running it really lean and fairly hard though.(over kill exhaust.lol) I am currently in Turkey, its a Military thing, but if you want to call my roomate you 2 can arrange something. His # is 530-713-2132. Just say you are the person that wants Jim's (that would be me) engine and he'll know its you. Any more questions about it just let me know.

But the thing is someone just bought my 240 with bad engine for his sr20 project, so I am just looking for a good running one maybe twin cam right now~
Sorry, I couldn't go to get your engine, but really think you for giving me a chace to fix my car for cheap!
Please be safe in Turkey! Later~

I know of someone on the 240sx.org e-mail list who's done it. The dipstick is in a different place, the intake manifold is a little different and the disbributor is different, but that's all I can remember from a couple years ago. I don't think he had to do much to it to make it work in the 240SX.
He also said the truck motor had a little more low end power but not as much high end, compared to the SOHC 240SX KA.
