I just got my Paeco Catalog a few days ago and it is freaking awsome. For those that don't know they are one of the best import engine builder and machiners in the country.
Their stage four engine will cost $8200 for 298 Naturaly Aspired horsepower. It includes the following parts and services. Some i don't understand so please explain for me.
New Parts...
High performance Pistons and Deves Rings
Teflon wristpin buttons
chrome-moly connecting rods
titanium wristpins and copper head gasket
Paeco camshaft
hi-rpm valve springs and stem seals
titanium valve spring retainers
O.S. competition valves and bronze guides (what does O.S. stand for?)
premium bearings, chains, gaskets and guides
Piston Machine Work...
balanced
knurled
glasspeened and heatsheild
lightened
bosses drilled for oil
Rod Machine Work...
balanced
recut and aligned
glasspeened
lightened
Crankshaft Machine Work...
balanced and glasspeened
turned and polished
built to STN"D with paecolleoy (please explain?)
knife-edged
Block Machine Work...
dipped, bored, honed, and milled true
main saddle line-bored (Please Explain?)
cam saddles line-bored (Please Explain?)
cam bearings installed
Cylinder Head Machine Work...
cleaned and glasspeaned
milled true
precision 3-angle valve job
ported and polished chambers countoured
value guides chamfered (is this a spelling error or what?)
combustion chamvers CC'd (is this a spelling error or what?)
Misc. machine Wok...
Flywheel lightened
magnaflux inspection (Please Explain?)
glasspeen main caps
balance and blueprint complete engine
All of that gets you 298 horsepower. Granted this is a full blown race engine and will have usefull power up to 9000RPM.
How much would it cost to get all of this machine work done, a full and complete engine rebuild such as above, and a turbo setup to achieve this power? I think it would cost just about the same...right?
Anyone with a good deal of experience in autoracing might be able to help on this one. When this kind of engine is installed and idling is it really rough or is it smooth? Do you think this engine could be streetable at all (not concidering smog)? If not please explain why...
Let me know if you think this price is good for this kind of work.
