I just got my Paeco Catalog a few days ago and it is freaking awsome. For those that don't know they are one of the best import engine builder and machiners in the country.

Their stage four engine will cost $8200 for 298 Naturaly Aspired horsepower. It includes the following parts and services. Some i don't understand so please explain for me.

New Parts...
High performance Pistons and Deves Rings
Teflon wristpin buttons
chrome-moly connecting rods
titanium wristpins and copper head gasket
Paeco camshaft
hi-rpm valve springs and stem seals
titanium valve spring retainers
O.S. competition valves and bronze guides (what does O.S. stand for?)
premium bearings, chains, gaskets and guides

Piston Machine Work...
balanced
knurled
glasspeened and heatsheild
lightened
bosses drilled for oil

Rod Machine Work...
balanced
recut and aligned
glasspeened
lightened

Crankshaft Machine Work...
balanced and glasspeened
turned and polished
built to STN"D with paecolleoy (please explain?)
knife-edged

Block Machine Work...
dipped, bored, honed, and milled true
main saddle line-bored (Please Explain?)
cam saddles line-bored (Please Explain?)
cam bearings installed

Cylinder Head Machine Work...
cleaned and glasspeaned
milled true
precision 3-angle valve job
ported and polished chambers countoured
value guides chamfered (is this a spelling error or what?)
combustion chamvers CC'd (is this a spelling error or what?)

Misc. machine Wok...
Flywheel lightened
magnaflux inspection (Please Explain?)
glasspeen main caps
balance and blueprint complete engine

All of that gets you 298 horsepower. Granted this is a full blown race engine and will have usefull power up to 9000RPM.

How much would it cost to get all of this machine work done, a full and complete engine rebuild such as above, and a turbo setup to achieve this power? I think it would cost just about the same...right?

Anyone with a good deal of experience in autoracing might be able to help on this one. When this kind of engine is installed and idling is it really rough or is it smooth? Do you think this engine could be streetable at all (not concidering smog)? If not please explain why...

Let me know if you think this price is good for this kind of work.

I think an engine like that would make peak power at redline. Well on top of the engine build up you would need fuel management, engine control, underdrive pullyes, ect. Also it wouldnt pass emissions and be totally unstreetable...

...but a 9000rpm KA would be cool so go for it! As long as it's not my car. :D

Unstreetable. You can't make that kind of power on small cams, or get a 9k redline without some duration.
It's a FULL RACE MOTOR. Unless you have a backup car, forget about it.
Also... a $9k turbo kit with rebuild should net you 350+rwhp.

can you go into further explaination as to why it is unstreetable? Besides the octane barrier!

How do y'all define "unstreetable"

I hear the term tossed all over the place, sometimes where I think it doesn't belong (not saying that's the case here. . .)

I regard it as your effective power range is waaay up at high revs. . .

That would be an awesome engine to have for the na aspects of it, but honestly if I were building an NA car it would most likely be a domestic, I love the sounds of them :D .

Although that engine would be nice to own, I'd rather go for the FI route, or get that and get a custom supercharger or something, you would have a lot of uniqueness in the engine. ;)

About streetabiltiy, I would assume you have a different definition than I do. Getting a clutch can make a car unstreetable to some, in the fact that its a bitch to drive in traffic, but to me it is more when my car can't make it through city streets due to suspension, or my car pops wheelies.

If I were you I would juss go Turbo, but that doesn't mean its a bad idea.

To me "unstreetable" is:
-Very aggresive cams and compression.
-The need for the engine to run race gas all the time.
-Idle at 1700rpm or higher
-IT'S ILLEGAL AS ALL HE_LL!

Ok That paeco stage IV motor is so unstreetable..
Ask me how i know this...

Last year i spent so much time on the phone with the people at Paeco.. He said the stage IV motor will have to be rebuilt every 2-3 weeks... Thats if you race it, if you use it as a daily driver you better be rebuilding it almost ever week............ The compression on the stage IV is 14 to 1...

So pretty much.. You getting that motor for a daily driver is not happening.... You getting that as a track motor wouldn't happen either cause you don't seem to have access of machine tools, in order to rebuild a whole motor ever couple of weeks..

Instead of saying what you want, why don't you call them.. There really friendly guys.....

I wouldn't spend over 8 grand with paeco unless I had seen and talked to the owner of a KA with their claimed 298 HP. Better to go with a company with true experience in built nissan motors including built KAs. Someone like Rebello.

I have the catolge also, and I looked into it, its not worth it, once your at your Top HP in that engine, you will want more, but you cant really upgrade it, when turbo you can
