Update... May 11th 9:30pm
SOooooo yeah, lets see. Sorry i haven't updated this thing in a loooong time. after the constant nay saying and negative responses from places like the Camarillo airport and stuff i kind put it on the bottom of my list of tasks.

Thanks to steve tho for letting me know that u guys are still talking about it(especially here on zilvia).
So i called the Santa Barbara Airport today and they said no. Straight up, no bs, which was nice in a way because they weren't like eh maybe and transferred me over to like 20+ people to get a straight answer.

Im going to call the Camarillo aiport one more time tomorrow. But the last time i talked with them they were asking for an outrageous amount of cash, i mean it'd be better to rent the balcony.

Venue venue venue... still searching

BTW. I think i should make the idea clear of what kind of event i wanna put together.
I'm thinking it should be affordable, somewhere in the $70-90 range, maybe $100 buuuut... yea. Spectator seating would be nice, if not then a spectator area would work just as well. And i don't want it to be the only one we put together, it'd be nice to have a little drift event going on out here in the 805 every once in a while.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update April 2nd 10:30pm
Still no venue for sure. But some good news!? You might ask how could you have good news w/o even having a venue. Well lets just say I talked to some people about this idea, and making it happen, and we are going to do this 99.9% for sure. Well maybe 98% but what ever. There are some small problems we still need to look at but I'm on it.

Thanks to everyone that responded and letting me know that they are down. Hopefully I can kill this thread w/ its "feeler" non-sense and make a real event thread soon.

Still need other possible venues. We can't put all our hopes into the airport.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update April 1st 11:30pm(more like april 2nd 12:00am
More legitimate bad news straight from the peeps down in "we don't have a street racing problem" land

The fairgrounds person that contacted me back was totally unaware of what i meant by drifting. Anyways they said no.

So if anyone knows of any local would-be venues in the ventura/camarillo/oxnard are located pm me or post a reply on the thread. I've already got some support from a body shop that i used to work at, so don't lose hope.
Need help!!!

Camarillo Airport needs to come through.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Update March 31 10:30pm
A nice amount of responses have been posted so I started makin some call today 'round 3 this afternoon

Lets start w/ the bad i guess. I contacted the Jim Hall Kart school, they have a track like 3 mins. from my house and they said..... no
I then e-mail Saugus Speedway and they said they stopped hosting motorsports in like '95 and their insurance doesn't cover it these days.

The pending I guess u could say is...
Camarillo airport is down, buuuuuuttt... from all of the drift events that were held last year, some of the chevrons and lanes painted on the runway were like gone, so they are disscussing whether or not to continue hosting these things. Im going to try to see if maybe the events could be pre-planned and that way they could see if its worth it to them seeing as how repainting the lines cost moneyz.
I'm still waiting for a response for V.C. Fairgrounds. I called like 20+ phone #'s they had listed on their site(actually more like 4) but the guy in charge of that stuff wasn't there. So I sent them an e-mail and I'm still waiting for the response.

Let us pray cuz V.C. is unlikely and Camarillo is now up in the air.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Looking to start drift events in the Ventura area.
This is not something that is going down 100% for sure.
I want to see what kind of response I get.
Hopefully enough peeps show some serious interest and we can make this happen.

I would like the event to be held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds parking lot, so that people that are unaware of this sliding madness called drifting can be exposed to it, but that is a long shot.

What is really possible though is an event at the Camarillo Airport. I know that there have been drift events there, but if I haven't been to one, I'd say there aren't enough.

So hit me up, either here or myspace or my e-mail.
Help is also welcome!!! Do it for the cause. I don't want to have to go out to the streets and get caught red handed, drifting in front of a cop again.

Wow. It'd be nice to be able to drift at the fairgrounds. Unfortunately they haven't been to keen on that idea in the past.
And maybe you are new to the area or the scene but Drift Association held events at the Camarillo airport throughout all of 2008, probably at least 10 events. Unfortunately that turned into a collosal pain in the ass logistically speaking.
If you can make something else happen, GREAT! Just be sure that whatever you have in mind dosn't end up being more harm to the "sport" than good.
And keep it off the streets, so what if you have to drive a little ways to do it legally. It's well worth it on many levels.
Good luck.

Just a word of advice, a friendly one. Be sure that if you do end up organizing an event that you take into account that what you do in the name of drifting will have an effect on drifting, be it for the better or worse.
Those who don't understand drifting will make snap judgments based on ONE event or incident. By this I mean that the "organization" of the event should be very carefully thought out, emergency plans in place, CONTROL of the event and it's participants is an absolute MUST. There is a lot to consider so plan well.
If you get something going I'd be HAPPY to come and check it out and possibly participate.
Best of Luck, I'll be keeping my eyes peeled.

why not try oxnard airport? the one thats right there off of 5th.

http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Oxnard+Airport&sll=34.232827,-119.16854&sspn=0.004222,0.009656&gl=us&ie=UTF8&ll=34.198635,-119.198259&spn=0.004002,0.009656&t=h&z=17

like there on the right where the planes are parked, looks like a pretty big area.

also i think that skip barber track is still out there off of harbor, but i dont know if that would be big enough

thats what i got. i'll be able to help out more once im in oxnard for the summer starting mid june.

I believe Camarillo airport has a strip that's not really being used as opposed to Oxnard. (I think).

U should ask the inland drift guys how they did it and try fairgrounds.

In reality there really is no place big enough other than fairgrounds and airports in ventura county.

Maybe there's some secret location at the indian reservation area.

ruddyrid
05-25-2009, 01:21 PM
i emailed the inland drift guys but they never sesponded and i know the oxnard airport wont allow an event there. so yup still looking for a VENUE.

I just reply to your email, sorry for the late response, we've been busy for last weekend event. quoted from my email:
Ruddy,
sorry for the late reply, you know we just done with our event last fri & sat. However with Fairgrounds, it is very hard. I've approached lots of them, turned down by every single one. Thank God, Lake Perris Fairgrounds is motorsport friendly. The officer had ever owned motorsports event, so they are supportive. They have Perris Auto Speedway which do sprint cars and kinda drifting but on dirt, another tenant is motocross, gokart track, drag race and skateboard park. So drifting is just another motorsport to them. Yet, it took us 8 months to finaly it's realized. Our suggestion to you is DON'T give up, keep searching and you'll find one like how we find Lake Perris Fairgrounds. If you have time, come over to our place, so we can talk more. I know it's a long drive, but hey...for drifting, whereever they are we support right?

Hope to see you soon, and wish you the best luck.

R.i.p........

well i guess us people in the 805 gotta drive to events, lol, i think we all should keep trying, i wish the dirt track here in santa maria had a paved parking lot, cuse then we might be able to get some events there.

RMJmotor
07-14-2010, 10:41 AM
Here in the 805 we just do not have enough options, I've been in the game for the better part of 10 years and have only done 3 events in the 805, all at Cam Airport, through big organizations like JustDrift and Drift Day.

One option might be Santa Paula Airport, they are smaller and privately owned I think.

We have attempted the Ventura Fairgrounds, no luck there. Closest easiest place is Willow Springs.

I through an event in may and no one signed up. For those who did from the non-zilvia community it was a blast, more drive time than you could ask for.

S13Yosh
07-15-2010, 01:10 AM
maybe santa paula. i havent been on the airport there in a while. but i will ask my buddy who rents a hangar there to see if he can ask. cuz yea driving to willow is kind of a hassle.

RMJmotor

Willow is worth it, Horse theif is the bomb and Balcony is the best place to learn at. Plus you get great drivers there for help and instruction.

i was also thinking SAnta paula airport but u never kno theres so much ranch a big land arears through all the 805 its crazy to think theres nowhere for a track or just a place to be allowed

junkyiv
07-21-2010, 06:50 PM
I'm always searching. Unfortunately VTA county is overpopulated with overly conservative tightwads who don't want to allow anything the least bit risky, noisy, smokey, fun, etc. - you get the picture.
Even when we had Camarillo airport for a year it just became too difficult logistically with their maintenance and access restrictions. Fun yes but SO much work.
Keep looking and I will too.
And yes Miguel it was fun while it lasted. I NEED A BOTTOM END FOR THE SR!!!!

ruddyrid
05-24-2011, 10:54 PM
lol, DONT LET THIS THREAD DIE.

i am going to e-mail some ppl i talked to and give them my(our) idea of a drift event in VC and hopefully they can help with some leverage agaist the restraints put on by the Camarillo airport and VC fairgrounds

gunmetalr32
05-24-2011, 11:04 PM
I was at the autox event in cam 3 weeks ago I don't see why they won't have drifting again..

We should just all pitch in and buy some land in filmore.., and build a track... It will be our sand lot
